Right Me Up

I am not sure what this one is about, but i think it is possible that it is about two guys, one being Manny, in jail on death row, and the only reason they are still willing to live is to hear the red sox game on the radio.. as the two last lines would suggest. I really like this song.. any other opinions?

I believe this song is about someone with ALS (not sure who) considering the lyrics "Got him a chair in '73 It was his only option So Manny agreed Same chair he has today since they threw the cane away " showing his slowly deteriorating body along with " My life will fight in my body for air" making a reference to the fact that ALS slowly creeps up to your lungs eventually suffocating the victim

I didn't even notice it was about the Sox til you guys pointed it out...being a sox fan myself I understand.

it also reminds me of a friend of mine who i haven't seen in two years cuz of some stupid things that went on, and now I found out he's moving out of state after he moved out of my neighborhood last year. i really don't know why this songs seems to explain it to me, just knowing I know can never patch up a lost bestfriend.

If it's about Manny Ramirez, then what does this line mean??:

"Got him a chair in '73 It was his only option So Manny agreed Same chair he has today since they threw the cane away" --1973? Manny Ramirez is not that old. Hell, he played for the minor league team in my city [Charlotte] in the early ninties! Plus the "cane" would imply he was injured but healed??--

oh, and what the hell is the "Jub Jub swing"????

Sgt is righ this is definatly not about Manny Ramirez. Yes Chad is a Sox fan, like myself, which explains the last line, which appears to be some watching the Sox on the radio. An old radio at that considering it has antennas that need to be held up. And Sgt's right in saying that this Manny character is apparently disabled (which would make it a little difficult to play in the MLB).

ya....sorry about that defintly not about manny but still thats what i think about when i hear some lines cause the way he is describing this "old man" he is very similar to manny like how he does what he wants to do for ex.

I get the feeling this song is for some homeless guy with a wheelchair whose name is Manny. the whle thing with the jub jub swing made me think of a park where bums would hang out. makes it seem like a song protesting a lack of enough welfare for folks. It wouls make sense from these guys considering their progressive political views

i totally agree with the elderly/disbled rights interpretation, but my friend (who was sure it was about manny ramirez) told me there was some "other version" that was, in fact, about the sox outfielder. does this "other version" actually exist or was my friend trying to cover up for her mistake?

Hey guys whats up, so i really like the interpertations you guys gave, but i read an interview with Chad Urmston about this song and basically Chad worked as the director for music at a camp for people that are physically and mentally challenged (Camp Jabberwocky, hence the Jub Jub Swing reference), there was a boy there named Manny who loved the Red Sox. That boy had a cane all his life until apparently they had to put him in a wheelchair (i guess in '73?) and Manny was really sad about that because he would not be able to walk around and be as active as he used to be. So Chad wrote this song for him, and about how Manny is a much stronger person than most of us.

Ummm, game set match: ntuli? That sounds pretty damn reasonable. Also, that's kinda' what I thought the song was about before hand, minus all of those supporting ideas/interviews.
