Wash Away Lyrics

Float down stream, rivers of dreams
Float down stream, catch your wings
Heavens high, so you fly
Catch your dreams in the sky

But the glaciers have frozen your feet
I can't wait for eternity
And so you watched me wash away
But maybe we'll catch up someday
Maybe well catch up someday

Sun sinks out of view
Stars they shine changing hue

But bright lights have blinded your sights
They cant adjust when day turns to night
And so you watched me wash away
But maybe well catch up someday

The castles we built were so tall
They only left us further to fall
And still I see them far away
But maybe we'll come back someday
Maybe we'll come back someday

Float down stream, rivers of dreams
Float down stream, catch your wings

The castles we built were so tall
They only left us further to fall
And still I see them far away
Maybe well come back someday

The castles we built were so tall
They only left us further to fall
And still I see them far away
As I watch them wash away
Wash away...
Wash away...
Wash away...
Wash away...

I agree with everyone, but I also think there's more to it. I think the image is that she's letting everything - their dreams, relationship, him - wash away while she chases her own dreams. She has stars in her eyes, chasing her wings, to fly away without him. She's giving it all up for some dream.

I kind of think that he doesn't think she'll reach her dreams though: her feet are frozen, she's blinded by the stars. I don't know. Sooooooo sad though. This song kills me.

I think he's singing about having something built up so much (perhaps a relationship) and describing what it feels like when everything breaks down, but he still has hope that "maybe we'll come back someday"

yeah i agree. i think its about a realtionship where so much animosity has built up thats there is no turning back. "the castles we built were so tall" and "the glaciers have frozen your feet" refers to how so much has happened that they are pretty much stuck in their position, unable to go forwards or backwards. the singer is still hopeful, however, the outlook is very grim. a great, powerful song IMO.

completely amazing song, i can totally relate to it. as said earlier, i think it's about a once great relationship that is slowly falling apart. I really like how Matt Costa represents the breakdown of the relationship with castles washing away - really brings the song to the next level.

'Maybe we'll catch up someday' I like how this song isn't totally negative, but does give some hope for the relationship to get back on track.

Thank you matt costa

I agree. everything was going so well and it bult him up to have a lot of hope for the future, but when things got messed up all the good times just made the fall harder. you know like it's easier to get divorced after 2 years than 20. there's still hope for them though which is nice because he obviously still really loves her

did anyone else think that the first verse has somewhat of a titanic reference ?

'But the glaciers have frozen your feet I can't wait for eternity And so you watched me wash away But maybe we'll catch up someday Maybe well catch up someday'

like when jack died and and rose let him go and 'maye well catch up someday' like in heaven when rose dies? i dont know maybe im completely wrong but its just something that i got out of it.

i adore this song

my boyfriend of almost two years ended our relationship because he feels as if there are other things he has to take care of, like figuring out who he is, before coming back to this relationship. we both still care about each other deeply, but right now he just wants to go in another direction and be out of a relationship until he gets settled into college and his life all makes sense, which is when he thinks he'll deserve someone like me.

this song means so much to me because he made me a playlist of his favourite indie music one day, and I've been listening to it every night before bed. this song came on and the lyrics hit me hard.

I feel that it's about a girl he dated who just needed to go in a different direction for a little while. It's not that the relationship went bad or there was anything wrong with him. She just... it's what she needed. And they've built so much together and it just makes it all so much harder to let it go, but you know there'll always be another chance. somewhere down the line. because a connection that strong never truly fades.

i think its about a relationship falling apart (the castles we bulit were so tall, it only left us further to fall). and maybe he didn't really want it to end (maybe we'll catch up someday), but for then that's what needed to happen.
