No comments on this!? It's great! It's so Sci-Fi sounding in the beginning.

Hmm..Hmmmm...

I have a feeling it's about having a terrible hangover. I'm wrong, no doubt, but "this Sunday afternoon" makes me think that he was out all Saturday night, and drank too much.

Blah blah blah 'm terrible at guessing what lyrics mean. I hate Sundays, anyway.

Lyrics aren't something you guess at. You should look at them like someone analyzing a poem or a story. Lyrics are, after all, literature.

My bet is that this has NOTHING to do with drinking. It has to do with a relationship, which has just ended. The kind that makes your whole life shatter and makes you think "I can't live without her! Wahhh." Someone is just shut into their room, they don't want to know another day will rise (Please don't let the light through my window) without her.

In the meantime, he's clearly entered the Denial stage of the whole Stages of a Loss. Is the lyric "I don't need [the day] anyway" really about the day, or is it about the girl?

The next stanza, "Don't wanna see the shop or the wet bus stop" is just a continuation of how much he doesn't want the day to continue.

And I think that when "the bells ring out for doom at this Sunday afternoon" he is greiving the loss of his girlfriend. It's possible even, come to think of it, that this is about his wife or lover's death, too. The funeral being on a Sunday. Regarldess, the bells ringing is just a stinging reminder of the doom that has befallen him and the lingering Monday to come-- not even a day to grieve or anything. Just straight back into the hustle and bustle.

That's what I see.

I believe this song is about being covered by a blanket of naivety where ignorance is (supposedly) bliss
