@LorenzoSeitz Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing. Maria could just be a nickname for marijuana. The lyrics certainly make sense in that context. But then again, it could just be about a girl. Who knows.

Absolutely one of the best songs ever. BW was great, we used to seee him in Ft Worth all the time. He could really sing and this song was the best!

i love this song i knew it first by brooks and dunn (their cover) it always made me feel good but i never quite got it, I know what he meant but now that i have my own "Maria" i feel whats being said. the lyrics perfectly describe how i feel when i think about her, the first line i especially identify with "My Maria don't you know I've come a long, long way" because i really have come a long, long way just to be with her and well.... when she's around she takes my blues away. ever want this macho man to feel mushy just play this.
