Patrick Bateman Lyrics
By the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight's last gleaming'
Travis, Rhinehart rolled into one cute son
Less than zero a grotesque nightmare
Subtly disturbing like normal behaviour
I'd walk in the park but the trees are diseased
No sweetheart and I am too confused
I only love my watch and my snakeskin shoes
People seem to laugh at my choice of food
My personality is held together with Sellotape
A loose fit just like a numb junkies' hate
Ugliness inside much harder to cover up
I lack the thought to care about politics
Just do what I like ain't that democratic
A backdrop to discuss over expensive wine
Didn't even know when or why I should stop
I feel so stupid like a joke that belongs
I cannot be saved as liberals keep telling me
I don't wanna be understood I just wanna kill
Out of blandness I am your everyday thrill
We are babies crippled in Christ
Patrick Bateman
Therefore I must be God
I must, I must be God
Surface reflection all I desired babe
I am melancholy, flower cutting through stone
I'm a crime everybody has at home
The dignity amongst Hollywood trivia
Escape is so cheap of alcohol and whores
Mine's the sanity of exclusive gun laws
Late show retards Dice Clay is true poetry
They've never tried living underneath the water
That's real end of the century nausea
We are babies crippled in Christ
Patrick Bateman
Therefore I must be God
I must, I must be God
We are babies crippled in Christ
Patrick Bateman
I fucked God up the ass
I fucked God up the ass
Patrick Bateman
Patrick Bateman
Patrick Bateman
Of the United States Of America
And to the republic for which it stands
One nation under God
Indivisible with liberty
And justice for all'

Patrick Bateman is the protagonist in Bret Easton Ellis's Novel ' American Psycho'. If you aren't familiar with the content and themes of the book, it's a satire/fantasy/horror story deconstructing affluent white 80's America. If that sounds like a cliche now remember it wasn't at the time. Nice mention of an earlier Ellis novel 'Less Than Zero' in the third line too :)

Probably my favourite song by MSP.
"I cannot be saved as liberals keep telling me"
Now that line is better then anything Ellis has ever written :)
I think this is my current favourite too, what a scorcher of a song.

Shame this wasn't on an album. Originally Nicky stated that it was going to become 'the most fucking horrible single ever', but they instead just had to settle with it being the most fucking horrible B-side ever, as it wasn't deemed suitable enough for mass distribution on their label. Can't see why. It kicks ass.

Does anyone else see how intense and heavy this song is?! Damn the whole band were absolutely great in creating the disturbing reality of Ellis' book, i mean listen to this song and try to picture the scenes, either from the movie or book and you will see how deep the the song and especially the lyrics are, Richey was a freaking god for himself, i admire him
