Maybe I'm a Leo Lyrics
Peeping round the door I got a big surprise
Couldn't see a thing but open skies
They've taken her away where is she now
Wish that she was here wish she'd hold my hand
Maybe she could laugh maybe understand
Why was I so cruel where is she now
Acting like a fool I had to make her cry
Maybe I'm a Leo but I ain't a lion
I'm hurting oh so bad, I want her now
Couldn't see a thing but open skies
They've taken her away where is she now
Maybe she could laugh maybe understand
Why was I so cruel where is she now
Maybe I'm a Leo but I ain't a lion
I'm hurting oh so bad, I want her now

this song is awesome
This song was written mainly by Roger Glover. Him and Ian Paice both have similar hobbies and intrests. One day Paice asked what his star sign was and he didn't know, but as Paice was a Leo and because of their similarities he said "Maybe I'm a leo".
The laid back rock feel also comes from their lifestyle, which was far from the intensity coming from the other band members.
wow this needs more comments, great main riff, great lyrics, great guitar solo. The keyboard solo sounds like its ripped off from the one in "riders on the storm" by the doors
As to the meaning of the lyrics I believe it is about a woman (I doubt I am breaking any ground here). The lyrics must be examined closely to get the full story.
It seems as if the narrator is coming back to wherever he lives and is greeted by a "big surprise". He says that he can only sees open skies which would imply that your world has been taken away which shows us how much this woman meant to him. The next line is odd because it blames a third party: "they've taken her away". This makes me think the fight they may have had got a little too heated and either the police or maybe her friends took her away from the narrator.
The next two verses make it clear that the narrator blames himself for her being gone and it is apparent how badly he wants her back. My previous theory about the police/ friends or family taking the woman away is further reinforced by him saying "maybe i'm a leo, but i'm not a lion". Seems like the narrator has been accused of being violent.
Sorry if that's a little wordy i'm a very disorganized writer.
Ian Paice, the drummer, was not a Leo; he was born June 29, making him a Cancer. I THINK that the other person meant the singer, Ian Gillan, who was a Leo. I don't know who wrote the lyrics, but I can relate to this song more than almost anyone, 'cause I've had my share of problems with women, and I was born on the first day to be a Leo, but now some say the astrological charts are off by a day, and I don't know which direction they moved, so maybe I'm a Leo and maybe I'm not....
If it is a woman, I think the author talks about his mother, the tumultuous childhood he lived and the problems he may have caused to this woman he did Often crying. He returns to his mother's house because she is dead and he finds herself in front of this house that has seen him grow up, this house that has witnessed all this and now opens in a great void: his mother died and He regrets not returning to see her sooner. He would like her to hold her hand still as she could many times when he was young. Perhaps it was born under the sign of the leo but it is not a lion, it is not this majestic animal, it is not the king of the jungle, even if in his childhood it s' Is behaved as such, bringing a hell to his mother. It's just my personal vision of this text ...
