Daft Punk Is Playing At My House Lyrics
Ow, ow!
Well, Daft Punk is playing at my house, my house
I'll show you the ropes, kid, show you the ropes
Got a bus and a trailer at my house, my house
I'll show you the ropes, kid, show you the ropes
I bought fifteen cases for my house, my house
All the furniture is in the garage
Well, Daft Punk is playing at my house, my house
You got to set them up kid, set them up
You got to set 'em up, ooh, ooh, yeah
You got to set 'em up, ooh, ooh, yeah
You got to set them up, set them up
Well, Daft Punk is playing at my house, my house
I waited seven years and fifteen days
There's every kid from miles at my house, my house
And the neighbors can't call the police
There's a fistfight brewing at my house, my house
Because the jocks can't get in the door
When Daft Punk is playing at my house, my house
You got to set them up, kid, set them up
You gotta set 'em up, ooh, ooh, yeah
You gotta set 'em up, ooh, ooh, yeah
You gotta set them up, set them up
You got to set 'em up, ooh, ooh, yeah
You got to set 'em up, ooh, ooh, yeah
You got to set them up, set them up
Solo!
Well everybody's lined up at my house, my house
And Sarah's girlfriend is working the door
Got everybody's PA in my house, my house
All the robots (oh!) descend from the bus
There's a freak out brewing in my house, my house
In the basement
Cause Daft Punk is playing at my house, my house
You got to set them up, kid, set them up
You got to set 'em up, ooh, ooh, yeah
You got to set 'em up, ooh, ooh, yeah
You got to set them up, set them up
You got to set 'em up, ooh, ooh, yeah
You got to set 'em up, ooh, ooh, yeah
You got to set them up, set them up
And never, never let them go
No, never, never, never let them go
Never, never, never let them go!
Let 'em go!
Never, never, never let them go
Oh, never, never, never let them go
Oh, never, never, never let them
Oh, let them go

It sounds as if they kindnapped Daft Punk and forced them to play at a house party. That would be the meaning of the lines which go "I'll show you the ropes kid (...) / I bought fifteen cases for my house".
Finally the correct title is restored.
This song sounds like he's instructing a kid on how to throw an awesome party.
Another thing I just thought of. James Murpghy is so "anti-scene" and the Rapture leaving his DFA label for Universal (I think?) had a big effect on him. Maybe the last line "Never let them go downtown" is a reference to "Never let a band become too cool for its own good because that mentality is killing music."
COMMENTS FROM THE WRONGLY-TITLED:
by dogARTit on 04-14-2005 @ 01:58:03 PM this band rocks-as far as meanings goes I think it is just about a party -not the deepest meaning here.
by DuTcHoVeN on 05-21-2005 @ 08:28:35 PM yeah, pretty cool song, the title is actually "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House"
by Eatcarpet on 07-17-2005 @ 05:02:00 AM This song sounds similar to "Roadrunner" by Jonathan Richman. Both of the bands which don't take themselves very seriously.
by NickPlummer on 07-18-2005 @ 04:33:58 AM Ok, Not Much Meaning, Obviously just a daft punk fan
by kevinr on 01-01-2006 @ 10:21:05 PM They're a dance punk band, there's not supposed to be some "deep" meaning. Just take it for what it's worth because it is a great song.
by bkat004 on 02-02-2006 @ 09:30:00 PM Top Notch Mega Banging Song!
I heard even Janet Jackson wants to work with James Murphy!
Music is so complicated now, I thought they were a Dance act, but they actually come under a Rock band format. How cool is that!
Lastly, I love it how music acts mention other music acts in their songs, as if to say, Fans are fans of musicians, but musicians are also fans of other musicians too i.e. Weezer's "El Schorcho"'s "I asked you to go to the Green Day concert"
by clouds on 05-29-2006 @ 10:32:56 PM this song (and album) is supposedly all about inside jokes
that helped me understand parts of it
and there's a chunk missing
about every kid for miles annd the neighbors calling the police
by residentgiant on 09-22-2006 @ 07:13:38 PM james murphy is fucking hilarious:
" used to play house parties in punk rock bands. You don't really get paid, but what you do is sell a ton of merchandise, and get a place to sleep. When I got into dancing, taking E and being optimistic, I thought; wouldn't it be great if some kid wanted Daft Punk to play at his house? So he rings the agent who says they'll cost £40,000 and he saves for seven years and finally gets enough money and flies Daft Punk over. And, of course, they'd have no idea where they would be landing, 'cos the rider includes two first-class tickets on Air France. And the kids would be earnestly trying to meet all the rider requirements, but Daft Punk would still end up playing in the basement next to the washing machine, which we all did. A local hardcore band is supporting, and the PA consists of all the local kids' amps and stereos taped together. I thought that would be like the best show that anyone would ever see. My goal is to actually make that happen for a video - find a really great punk rock house, get Daft Punk to play, and LCD Soundsystem would be the opening local band. It just makes me happy."
thanks residentgiant - i always wondered if it actually happened or not. i like the track better for not being a report but a story.
Great song. Much respect for LCD Soundsystem and Daft Punk, they rock.
sweet jams (as always)
It's about preparing for throwing an awesome party
haha when i read the lyrics, it sounds like a shel silverstein poem. love the song, though :)
This song is so great to jam out to! I (heart) it! lol
