Stroboscopic contortion-assault.
Light bulb language translated into fits
Codes of tendon-flickers I can't grasp.
Focus lost as I writhe and twitch
Random beats of blinding shockwaves.
Erratic suns that twist my eyes
Flashes pounding at my thoughts as the intrinsic pains multiply
Muscle and tissue twined with every violent lash
Battered by an unrelenting shine
Immobilized by the increasing pains,
the procreating agonies of system breakdown
Lightwave frequency body-oscillation.
Undeciphered motions pass through my flesh
Bodily reverberation induced.
A corporeal system lost in its waves
Bleached into their existence by tremulous epileptic strokes
Blasts of irregular pulsar-radiation
Triggering the process of mind and body control
Lost to their control
A sentence - in flashes told
Enticed by their calls; - Insane, divine
Torn, undone, dissolved
By incandescent gods condemned
Burned. Their mark on my soul
To my inverted shadow confined
Twisted, spun. Vertebras and spinal column unaligned
Joints shattered and torn apart.
Spasm-rendered distortion
Organic spiral. Stretched and torn into a new creation
A worldless thing, a thingless word.
Lightborn malformation

it seems more like a description of a seizure, how the body's impulses from the brain become uncontrollable. such as in epilepsy, "tremulous epileptic strokes"
good song. i recommend it highly. yeah. whoo hoo. what does this song mean to me: it seems to be some process someone goes through while undergoing mind control or where it is the process of losing your autonomy completely.
This almost makes it seem like I've survived the apocalypse, and this is a recap of what happened as the final ignorants lost all direction and were torn apart. This is my absolute favorite song. The opening guitar makes me shudder and the atmosphere rolling off his tongue after he says "Triggering the process of mind and body control" blows over me like the winds of a nuclear explosion far off. I'm not a part of it though, he's only voicing his prediction.

Favorite Meshuggah song too! At Least on this album!!

" I'm not a part of it though, he's only voicing his prediction." Look to Stengah: "Still you claim the worshipper's pose and you bow. You kneel to the syringe"

the first half of this song is definately about someone suffering from epilepsia. epilepsia is triggered often by lights, especially flashing lights and the song is full of refernces to flashign lights.
the 4th and 5th paragraphs seem to suggest that some sort of medication saved this person suffering from epilepsia. but it also suggests that the god's wanted revenge for this person evading death and therefore evading them. it is interesting to note that many epilepsia medications increase women's chances of having babies with cognital malformations (deleterious physical birth defects) and the 6th paragraph talks about some sort of malformation or defect. i think the person is a epileptic woman who's, after being saved by some medication, tried to have a baby but the baby was born with some kind of malformation...the gods' revenge for her evading them...which explains the last line, 'lightborn malformation', lightborn refering to her epilepsia which was triggered by lights and malformation the birth defect her child has been born with.
its a bit farfetched but its probably the best explanation yet. real hard song to decipher =P

Perhaps the outcome of following one's mind and not the soul.
The only person on planet earth who's vocals come close to being as epic as Jens kidmen's are Tomas Haake's. This song is so heavy instrumentally but instead of violent roars to complement the instruments, we get super creepy octave tuned spoken vocals. Meshuggah takes so many experimental steps and I love when they tamper with their own style and create new ones.
I thought it was nonsense or about weird future paradoxes (as most of their songs are) but this makes more sense.
To me this song is clearly about Kundalini kriyas. Kundalini is an evolutionary energy that can rise up your spine if activated by proper techniques and/or lifestyle. Look it up, it is fascination stuff. Catch 33, to me, is also about this change in consciousness.
A kriya is an involuntary movement triggered by the rising of this energy in the body. This movement of energy will try to clear any blockages in the body that may have been created in this life or even past life experiences, traumas, etc...
Seems legit.
