An amazing song by an amazing band!

I think it's all down to how you interpret it - it means what you want it to mean. This is my interpretation...

He says 'I don't mean to hurt you', which suggests to me that 'I' and 'you' are close friends and care about each other. That's pretty much where my interpretation of the song comes from.

I think they are great friends and both have strong feelings for each other, and they both have known about it for some time...

'We used to like it Used to be In the sunset time of our dream'

But 'I' has realised that things won't work between them and feels like he needs to break contact and get away...

'I finally realised I know you'll never really get inside of me But I don't mean to hurt you Just let me disappear'

He realises this will hurt his friend because he will be leaving her life and they care a lot for each other, but he finds it too hard being around her while he still has feelings for her. Maybe it hurts him if he sees her with another guy and it's too much for him.

Personally, I think he's a muppet for wanting to throw away the friendship he has because of how he feels.

This song means something to me, probably different to the intended meaning.

Essentially i am caught in 2 minds. I have a certain philosophy on life, but I am scared of losing a girl I like unless I change because i don't know if she can really relate to me any more

Should I reach for the stars, or settle for a simpler life? Whatever the case i will be there for her.

He's speaking to himself...He's tired of conflicts within himself and wants to accept them as the reality...In the end he's sure that he'll be with himself whether he loses his faith or not, whatever happen he'll be there with himself!!!

I totally agree with what @rimastratocaster says. I think the song talks about dealing with two different ways of thinking in the same person, a type of personality that conceals and does not like, but can not stop needing it is not easy to change it.

It could about breaking contact with someone you love and/or care about because of our mental disorder. Possibly bipolar or schizophrenia.
