This song reminds me of the random thoughts that occur to you when you're daydreaming, but it has a sort of sinister side to it. The second and fourth verses seem to go together. I feel like there's something I'm not getting though.

"turns you off"? well, you must have really monolithic and immature views on things like sex, even in the context where its not trying to be sexual at all. because it's not advocating sex with apes; it's talking about where "modern man" came from. honestly, i dont know why you are even listening to Islands. i think the new nelly single on the radio or something would be more your speed.

when i first heard this song, i literally stopped what i was doing to listen to it. the lyrics are amazing, and like "wrapid" said, it really does feel like your own thoughts.

There are hints in this song of the recurring theme of cannabalism on this whole album. The world is coming to an end, the food supply is running out, so we have to eat each other.

For instance:

The double-entendre of "dessert" as a sweet food, as in "if you're not nice to me, I'll have you for dessert".

And

"If you don't savor me, I'll salt you, make you savory""

says to me "if you don't appreciate me, I'll kill you and salt your flesh to make it taste better"

Or it could mean if you die first, I get to eat you. If I die first, you get to eat me.
