I'm sorry but i think you are both wrong...it's about a man who wants to start a relationship with someone with a bit of a reputation for being "easy" and he ignores everyone telling him that she is not the kind of person to be with, and he ends up going for it...simple as that
i agree with josh... i think its about the fact that he wants to start a relationship with someone but her "lousy reputation" is making him have second thoughts. but he fights these thoughts, feels bad for thinking them and then overcomes his doubts

A lad is upset that the girl he wants has a promiscuous reputation. But that is the reason why he was first attracted and reason why he ended up with her (one night stand) "The qualities you openly have advertised".
Then he starts or wants to start dating her, but his mind is full of all the possible skeletons in her closet. He either knows or thinks because the way they first met, she has slept with more people than him or slept with a lot of people.
So he can’t stop dwelling on her lousy reputation. Ruining there relationship before it even starts.
I'm pretty sure it's actually: "I've never been a saint and I won't start tonight", not "I've never been that sane".
