Here is my line-by-line interpretation:

And I'll stand nude My eyes roll out, reveal my skull; a cave of doubt (This can be thought of in two ways, though those two ways could act as one: He'll simply reveal everything, especially his pessimism.)

My surgery's done You gave the knife I need you here to save my life (I'm not so sure about this part... maybe he's saying he feels like this because of who the song is addressed to, or that he got stabbed in the back but the only one who can make him feel better is the one who did it?)

So please stay in tonight Pull the soul from my eyes Pull the soul from my eyes and say goodnight (Again, interpreted in two ways: Basically, he's begging whoever to just stay with him for once, so let him tell them everything/have meaningful sex with them and to stay through the entire night. Could be talking about one-night stands, maybe?)

Just stay at home, strip me down to the bone I can't be alone (Again, the same thing, two interpretations: This is the meaningful sex versus one-night stands thing along with revealing everything about himself and him saying he can't be without the addressee.)

And they don't see the nagging stress That beats and beats inside my chest (Living is difficult and almost unbearable.)

Encase my heart to keep it safe where no one else can make it break (He reverts to keeping to himself so that no one else can hurt him.)

And all the schools they sent me to The upper class ants march two by two A 4.0 for each brave boy Well I won't fuck with them anymore (Hmmmm... another tricky one. This is too interpret-y for me.)

And the days go by I still believe there is someone who can comfort me (He still has hope for someone to save him.)

i can't believe nobody has commented this song. it's beautiful lyrically, and i love how it starts all slow and sad, then he goes to almost shouting. max is my hero.

this song is really beautiful. its cute how he lets her see everything, figuratively speaking. letting her into his soul and not just his pants.

One of my all time favorite songs. Like luvxisx said, it's about letting someone see who he really is behind the mask. That's something I think it's easy enough for anyone to relate to.
