Hongkongaton Lyrics
(Dirty sounding slurping, and lip smacking noises)
Just falling out, not making much of anything at all but-
All you could hide from what's there, in the past of it
Just falling out, not making much of anything at all but-
All you could hide from what's there, in the past of it
Just falling out
All you can't hide
All you can't hide
Just falling out
All you can't hide
(Hongkongaton)
All you can't hide
Just falling out
(Not making much of anything at all but)
All you can't hide
(From what's there in the past of it)
Just falling out
(Not making much of anything at all but)
All you can't hide
(From what's there in the past of it)
Just falling out
(Not making much of anything at all but)
All you can't hide
(From what's there in the past of it)
(Not making much of anything at all but)
All you can't hide
(From what's there in the past of it)
All you can't hide
All you could hide from what's there, in the past of it
All you could hide from what's there, in the past of it
All you can't hide
(Not making much of anything at all but)
(From what's there in the past of it)
(Not making much of anything at all but)
(From what's there in the past of it)
(Not making much of anything at all but)
(From what's there in the past of it)

the meaning of this song's always been pretty obvious to me, but i could be wrong. imho, it's about running from memories you regret, and keeping them secret. the lyrics are sparse, but clear: "all you can't hide", "in the past of it", "just falling out" etc., are clear markers that this song is about the weight of secrets. the message? keeping them is futile, because in the end you can't change the truth of your mistakes.
also worth noting is that the lyrics put so much emphasis on that one "hongkongatoooon" like it's some sort of harbinger of doom or something...my mind personally likens it to a godzilla-like figure, but i dunno. the point is, 'hongkongaton' (which is probably a mockup of some kaiju movie) is actually just the secrets themselves, which we give so much importance that they gain mass and become monsters in their own right. then there's "not making much of anything at all" which stands in stark contrast with the other lyrics, and the music itself. the rhythm and instrumental choice makes the whole thing to a monster's footsteps crashing down, slow and heavy, foretelling destruction. but that line...it's so flagrantly dismissive, like "the past is the past, it has no real impact on the present".
in short, it's a song cluttered with cognitive dissonance and catastrophizing, hammed up by it's likeness to a monster, except maybe the monster is really just a man in a suit who became his own monster...and the kissing at the beginning fades into all this makes me think the "secret" is that they're having an affair lol.
so yeah. that's my take.
Haha.
Strangest song ever.
this song is hilarious. "2-dz" your funny, cause it does sound like someone is giving someone a blowjob, and at the end of this song you hear videogame noises.
play it backwards and it'll sound even more nasty
where would i go to get this song?
The biggining of this song is VERY disgusting, as for the meaning, uh....drugs! Yea, uh... that works!
i'm sick of all you jerks who think every song by the Gorillaz is about jerks. and as for the sound effects. eek. they've got some weird stuff in these songs of theirs.
The sound effects at the end aren't from a video game, they're from one of those old-timey toy ray guns. You can probably still find toy guns that make the same noise at a dollar store somewhere.
this song is very awsome with lots and lots of bass and driving down the street with it. hehe
