Jesus, Take the Wheel Lyrics

She was driving last Friday on her way to Cincinnati
On a snow white Christmas Eve
Goin' home to see her Mama and her Daddy
With the baby in the backseat
Fifty miles to go and she was running low
On faith and gasoline
It had been a long, hard year
She had a lot on her mind and she didn't pay attention
She was going way to fast
Before she knew it she was spinning
On a thin black sheet of glass
She saw both their lives flash before her eyes
She didn't even have time to cry
She was so scared
She threw her hands up in the air

"Jesus, take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this all on my own
I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I'm on
Jesus, take the wheel"

It was still getting colder when she made it to the shoulder
And the car came to a stop
She cried when she saw that baby in the backseat
Sleeping like a rock
And for the first time in a long time
She bowed her head to pray
She said, "I'm sorry for the way
I've been living my life
I know I've got to change
So from now on tonight

Jesus, take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this all my own
I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I'm on

Oh, Jesus, take the wheel
Oh, I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
Save me from this road I'm on
From this road I'm on
Jesus, take the wheel
Oh, take it, take it from me
Oh, why, oh"

to me this song means a lot because back in december of 2011 i told jesus that he needed to take the wheel in my life because the way i was living my life i was not ready for ne thing in life because of what i was doing by playing roulette, cutting my self, and smokeing so this song is pretty much like my testimony to my life.

The song is a testament to your faith in God. If you just hand everything over to him, things will turn out just fine. Maybe that's what is wrong with the world today. A little FAITH goes a long way....

Everytime I would listen to this song, I'd cry. After my grandma passed away, we made a DVD tribute of her life, and I heard this song play in the background after 10 minutes into the slideshow. I cried becuase this song describes what she was going through when she had her cancer, I love this song so much, because she believed in God a lot, and so to me, for her, this song says that she wanted Jesus to help her get through the pain she had from the cancer, she was hurting from the medications and wanted it to stop so she wanted God to stop all of this, and just let him take over her life and let all the pain and hurt go away... she wanted to stop being hurt with the cancer, she was fighting it with all her strength but it took her, she wanted to be saved from the road she was on, I think it seemed like she was the road to getting better and stronger to fight the cancer, but in the end, the road she was on led to death. We all miss her so much, and so that's why I say this song is like her theme song.

I like this song and think it's full of good solid Christian imagery and messages that are true to what the song intends to be and match up with Carrie Underwood's image and the whole Christian country song idea.

The car accident is a good situation to use in the song. I've been in a car accident and had a moment where I felt like I was not alone in my car and I was being helped to safety (and my dad still says he's not sure how I managed to put the car through the moves I put it through to reduce the damage done to my car and the other car as much as I did)

The only thing I don't like about it (from a Christian philosophical perspective) is the whole thing about her having to be in deep trouble before she let's "Jesus take the wheel". Most songs and stories on this subject present this same idea. It would be interesting for a subject of this sort of song to hand things over to her faith before getting into trouble.
