Melt Your Heart Lyrics

Nothing is ever as good as it was
And what's good for your soul will be bad on your nerves
If you reverse it

It's bound to melt your heart
One way or another
It's bound to melt your heart
For good for bad
It's like a valentine from your mother
It's bound to melt your heart

And we've lost the people we could've loved in you
What you know you have or what you think you want
It's never perfect

It's bound to melt your heart
One way or another
It's bound to melt your heart
For good for bad
It's like a valentine from your mother
It's bound to melt your heart

Are we killing time?
Are we killing each other?

When you're kissing someone who's too much like you
It's like kissing on the mirror
When you're sleeping with someone who doesn't get you
You're going to hate yourself in the morning

It's bound to melt your heart
One way or another
It's bound to melt your heart
For good for bad
It's like a valentine from your mother
It's bound to melt your heart

a rumination on a failed love, maybe no relationship in particular, but just a sense of being romantically doomed and feeling like you'll never find the perfect fit. is there anything more bittersweet than a valentine from your mom?

This song means a lot to me personally. She has had a lot of experience and a lot of heartache. I thought it said numb your hear for the longest time. Knowing that it says something else really doesn't change the meaning though. Melting can be good and bad. I don't think it's a good thing. I think the melting referred to in this song is uncontrollable for her and it gives her a very uncomfortable but familiar feeling.

it's really really sad.

definitely failed relationship... mourning over how it didn't work out...

I wasn't a fan of her album in the beginning, mainly because of her lyrics. But then I got around to it and started enjoying her music overall. Listening to the line "When you're kissing someone who's too much like you / It's like kissing on the mirror" however, reminds me again of the dislike. She just couldn't come up with a better analogy?

i think it's about trying so hard to get into a good relatonship, and failing... trying find a proper valentine, but you never do find the right person... and the only valentines you end up with are from your mother. i do love this song, lots.

and also yes, she's taking the usually gushy phrase 'melt your heart' and implying the melting of a heart is painful...wonderful, i for one love her lyrics...

melt your heart/one way or another melt your heart/for good or for bad

--the two different types of heart melting: gushy and painful

I don't think it's so much about her experience itself. If anything, I think she's come to understand that everything was not the way she expected it to be.

"It's bound to melt your heart / One way or another" Or "Are we killing time? / Are we killing each other?"

I think the whole song by admitting that there's another side it could refer to shows her struggle. For example, she thought that sleeping with someone would be lovely, enjoyable, sexually exciting or whatever you might interpret it as. But you can just see yourself, or I do, laying in bed at the ceiling as my partner lays dead asleep... Wandering, thinking, hating myself in the morning knowing that it was an entire mistake.

It's about acting and doing and then thinking.. Regretting it.

The lyrics are actually "Strike that reverse it" instead of "if you reverse it." And it makes a lot more sense actually if you think about it.

I've been trying to analyze this verse in context, "And we've lost the people we could've loved in you/What you know you have or what you think you want/ It's never perfect".

Although I agree that many other peoples' interpretations of a failed relationship may be correct, that one verse makes the song seem like it's about a regretful one night stand. If you have true affections for one person, and then sleep with another person just for sexual gratification, it can damage your future with the person you truly love. "What's good for your soul will be bad on your nerves if you reverse it".

"Are we killing time? / Are we killing each other?" To me, this means that since the one night stand, there has been a halt in the progress between the two 'true' lovers. Are their conflicting feelings causing them to kill time, and ultimately each other by not realizing their true love for each other?

Anyway, perhaps I'm reading too deeply into this because of my personal exxperiences, but this song really gets to me.

Shame on the person that says Jenny isn't a talented lyricist. I disagree completely ;].
