Horse Warming Party Lyrics

Born and raised that giant was a fighter.
Mississippi.
On that canvas.
Dirty streets.
The people stood up to wave those white flags
The devil had died through the valley.
In the city.
Down south.
The people stood up and a cheer went through the air
That devil had died.

Sharpened tongues fair painted divers
Forearms rest in streams of silver
Golden people pass in silence
But it won't slip away

That giant was a mountain of a man
Walking trembles through the earth
Like a riot in the streets tearin’ Florence to the ground.
The people stood up to wave those white flags
The devil had died.

Born and raised in 65.
In the streets.
Televised.
The people stood up and a cheer went through the air
That devil had died.

That giant was a fighter.
Mississippi.
On that canvas.
Dirty streets.
The people stood up to wave those white flags
The devil had died.
In those gloves.
In them women.
In the mind.
The people stood up and a cheer went through the air
That devil had died.

I think this may be about the assassination of Malcolm X on February 21, 1965. he was called the "devil of the white man" after all. "white flags" and "down south" seem to agree with that idea. but I'm just grasping at straws

@sweatersdotcom I definitely think civil rights movement is the angle here-- the giant is the movement/the people who fought for it. And they were born and raised down south, in the valley, in the city, because they were people from every corner of the country. Malcolm X is the devil who died, along with other civil rights leaders abd every day folks doing their part, but the movement goes on, hence golden people pass in silence/it won't slip away. I also don't think the riots in Florence are in Florence, Italy-- i think these are the LA riots that took...

And I thought the same thing.

The civil rights movement angle makes a lot of sense, but I'm not 100% sold Vietnam anyone? Maybe? It really started for us in 65 Definite valleys, we were allied with the South First war Televised That giant was a fighter- Communism? That devil- Communism had died in America, now we felt the need to irradiate it all over the world/Cold War Wave those White flags- vs the Red flags? White Army opposed the Bolsheviks in the October Revolution I dunno.. just throwin that out there

Sharpened tongues fair painted divers Forearms rest in streams of silver Golden people pass in silence But it won't slip away

...that is too confusing for either argument in my opinion.

I think I might have an idea about the four lines you mentioned and I agree with you about the Vietnam War:

Sharpened tongues fair painted divers (Maybe this refers to the verbal abuse the Veterans took upon returning, with divers referring to the NAVY.) Forearms rest in streams of silver (The heroin addiction.) Golden people pass in silence (The Veterans that are returning home.) But it won't slip away (They won't forget the abuse they endured.)

I am probably way off, but I just had an idea.

Ken McElroy He was very active in 1965 and people would be scared then " '65 born n raised" and when killed the town would rejoice that the devil had died and they would keep the secret for even now.
