Counting Stars on the Ceiling Lyrics
Les soleils couchants
Revtent les champs
Les canaux, la ville entire
D'hyacinthe et d'or
Le monde s'endort
Dans une chaude lumire
L, tout n'est qu'ordre et beaut
Luxe, calme et volupt
Took a taxi with Jean last night
It was late and it was raining
We live far away from each other
And there was no desire
I think it was more the dark night
Or some lonely feeling
When we got home, we were alone
We fell in love with that feeling
When we got home, we were alone
We fell in love with that feeling
Rain since Tuesday
Barely found my way to the shop
For the milk in the morning
And the news of the world had turned around
Then I heard you calling
Saw you turn the darkened corner
Then you were gone
When I got home, I was alone
I fell in love with that feeling
When I got home, I was alone
And I counted stars on the ceiling
When I got home, I was alone
And I fell in love with that feeling
When I got home, I was alone
And I counted stars on the ceiling
I fell in love with that feeling
When I got home, I was alone
I counted stars on the ceiling
I fell in love with that feeling
I fell in love with that feeling
Revtent les champs
Les canaux, la ville entire
D'hyacinthe et d'or
Le monde s'endort
Dans une chaude lumire
L, tout n'est qu'ordre et beaut

does this remind anyone else of a london metro at night?
The intro type thing to the song is definitely a poem by Baudelaire
A loose english translation -
The setting suns Cover the fields The canals, the whole city With hyacinth and gold. The world falls asleep In a warm light. There, all is only order and beauty Luxury, calm, and pleasure.
The poem was basically about a man telling a girl about this utopian land that they could run away to and be together. Trying to figure out how the song ties in... but yeah... a relationship song... she leaves in the end... yeah..
yes, the poem is called "Invitation to the Voyage", and you can find the whole thing in the original French as well as several English translations here: http://fleursdumal.org/poem/148
I love how "luxe, calme et volupté" gets translated slightly differently each time. :)
everytime i hear this song, i get this feeling like im walking on the streets of manhattan in the middle of the night, and i'm watching the people still walking about as if it was still day, going about thier business.
yeah, i get how u can think of a london metro...stars are such a lullaby.
this song is the 1st song i ever heard by them, and i really love it.
i think this song has a lot to do with empty sex. and how both people don't actually like eachother, they just like the physical, empty feeling it. "a lover you don't have to love", if you will.
i'm curious to know how the poem at the beggining ties in, too.
i get the same vibes as the rest of you. really, this whole album is amazing. i think it really ties in with the empy, lonely, miserable 100% city life concept. everyone needs a little nature.
One of the most beautiful songs...ever
lovvvve.
i can't help but notice a lot of similarities between this song and your ex lover is dead. it begins with taking a taxi as it begins to rain, and driving a long distance, or what seems to be a long distance.
from there the songs kinda split into different meanings i'd say. this one is a little more dark, sounds to me like its about a relationship that started with a spark, never fully caught, and just kinda petered out. thats pretty sad.
