Hotel Roosevelt Lyrics
Last call for the moon tonight
Read all rain on friday night
And take back all the things I said
And lay down, rest your pretty head now
Last call, no more drinks tonight
And it's not your fault
It's time to walk away from this velvet box full of alcohol
And TV talks gone on far too long
Take anything that's better for me
Take anything that's better for you
Take anything that's better for me
Take it now
Shut up, I'm wrong, I know
But we can't talk about it
All of the wars we won
But we're still walking home
Don't give me your reasons for all my bad intentions
New York, L.A., hey man, you know it's all the same
Last call, everyone go home
And take all of the L.A. rain in
Because it won't fall too much more this year
The summer's gone
But I'm still right here
Take anything that's better for me
Take anything that's better for you
Take anything that's better for me
Take it now
Shut up, I'm wrong, I know
But we can't talk about it
All of the wars we won
But we're still walking home
Don't give me your reasons for all my bad intentions
New York, L.A., hey man, you know it's all the same
New York, L.A., hey man, you know it's all the same
New York, L.A., hey man, you know it's all the same
New York, L.A., hey man, you know it's all the same
New York, L.A., hey man, hey man, hey man
New York, L.A., hey man, you know it's all the same
New York, L.A., hey man, you know it's all the same
New York, L.A., hey man, you know it's all the same

no one's commented on this song yet! another great song of Stars and Boulevards
sometimes i listen to songs and think they're not really about a specific thing or problem or person, but moreso a feeling. it's like singing about rain and having the song be about sadness. Like a poem giving insight into what the author feels like. i think that's what this song is about, just despondency and giving up.
I actually like the demo version of this song better than the version that's on the cd. But it's still a very good song. All The Stars and Boulevards is a great cd.
Yeah, i like the demo version better too. =)
I think it's a song about a couple that's in a fight or just had one.
He's at a bar drinking it off, but he knows last call is coming and it's sorta metaphorical for the one chance he has to make it right again ("Because it won't fall too much more this year").
The New York, L.A. repetition is a bit confusing though. Could be a hint at how things are the same on both sides (good and bad?).
What do you think?
The feeling I got about the New York, L.A. bit was that he was just sick of it, and giving up like whatever it's all the same who cares kind of attidude.
It reminds me of my situtuation (maybe thats cause its easy to see things that remind you of what intense thing you're going through, but anyway). Its obviously a couple thats in some sort of disagreement and it seems like at first he's saying yea I was wrong, just forgive me, lay your head down its all okay.. then realizing that its not working and saying we both need to do whatever is good for us and its not being together, that the drama will ultimatly never end because of who we are together. They're still fighting and she's pointing out all of his wrongs and hes saying yea things have been crappy, but we're still going our separate ways and at this point theres not point in dwelling on the thing in this moment that makes you mad and putting me down for it, all of our disatifactions with each other and me are all bluring into one big feeling, LA, New York it's all the same, all of our arguments have been different in ways, but mostly they're all the same bullshit, showing us we don't work and need to just move on.
or it could be how when stuff is going wrong you try to assure the person its fine and really you guys both want everything you can get out of an argument, walking away feeling like you have the upper hand, more of a bitter feeling, like yea i fucked up, i don't want to hear it because i'm sticking to what i think is right and all your bitching and nit picking is all the same to me, wrong.
This has a very defeatist feel to it. Doesn't matter what you do, or where you go, it's the same everywhere. Nothing makes a difference, nothing will change. You might as well quit while you're ahead, because it's not going to matter.
Enjoy what you have while it lasts 'cause it sure as hell won't last very long: "Last call, everyone go home/ And take all of the L.A. rain in/ Because it won't fall too much more this year"
What a song.
Its like when you have an argument, and you want to win, and be the right one, but really you know that your in the wrong. "Shut up, I'm wrong, I know But we can't talk about it" I'm pretty stubborn like that.
but i like that idea 'jojomeimei' :)
i love this song. the begining is so beautiful. i think its about the relationship falling down. "Last call for the moon tonight Read all rain on friday night And take back all the things I said And lay down, rest your pretty head now" _meaning i think him saying for her to just leave it at that at the moment. "Last call, no more drinks tonight And it's not your fault It's time to walk away from this velvet box full of alcohol And TV talks gone on far too long" i think meaning obviously he is at a bar just drinking it off. bad "Take anything that's better for me Take anything that's better for you Take anything that's better for me Take it now" 'do what we should do' "Shut up, I'm wrong, I know But we can't talk about it All of the wars we won But we're still walking home Don't give me your reasons for all my bad intentions New York, L.A., hey man, you know it's all the same" meaning they cant just talk it over again. its over. the NY LA thing i think that he is saying wherever they go its going to be the same thing over and over again. "Last call, everyone go home And take all of the L.A. rain in Because it won't fall too much more this year The summer's gone But I'm still right here" 'im not going anywhere nomatter how bad its going to be.' thats what i think its about. Augustana songs are very hard to figure out. =( i feel bad for them
