I Will Never Write an Obligatory Sound about Being on the Road and Missing Someone Lyrics

Take this pen to paper,
like a virgin befalled by the danger.
Poetry was never this real to me.
Well, i was too far gone to save her.

Oh Lordy!
The sun is coming up!
A marshmallow into a cloud!
I'll never shut up again!
I'm fucking disavowed.

Take this pen to paper,
in a stink there with four total strangers.
I am lost cause freedom has it's cost.
My box is full, i'll call you later.

I want my baby back!
I want my baby back!
I miss you, miss you.

I want my baby back!
I want my baby back!
I miss your kiss, I miss you.

I was hoping you were open
but you were not. I missed my shot

But then you called me
What befalled me,
I never knew.
I never knew it was you.

I got my baby back!
I got my baby back!
I miss you, miss you.

I got my baby back!
I got my baby back!
I miss your kiss, I miss you.

And, i got you back!
And, i got you back!
And, i got you back!
And, i got you,
Got you,
back!

Take this pen to paper.
Watch me take this pen to paper.
Woah!

I take this pen to paper
Watch me take this pen to paper
Woah!

Do I really even have to guess, the title says it all.

Oh or it might be mocking how all "love" songs sound very similar.

Seems very mocking.

It may be entirely sarcastic, or real to him and he chose to write it in a sarcastic way.

I like Max Bemis.

On their webpage Max claims his songs are packed with references to bands they dig. One which he names is Saves the Day. I think the title is refering to either Shoulder to the Wheel or The vast spoils of America (both of which are about being on the road and missing someone). I think one of those songs meant so much to him when he was on the road (cos of someone he missed or something) that he couldn't simply write another song like that. Thats why the style is scarastic. From what I can see, Max refuses to make unprogressive music. Saves the day have done something new with each release, and refuse to be pigeon-holed into one style of music. I think Max admires that and feels he has to do the same. And that my friends, is what makes him a damn good musician!

"Like a virgin, ENTHRALLED by the danger." And also, I think it's "In a stink VAN, with 4 total strangers." Being on the road.

Also, obligatory=required of bands who want to "make it?"

To be honest, none of you guys are right. I might not be right but here's what I think: Say anything got their name from the movie Say Anything... from 1989. the part "Take this pen to paper." is from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no3otN2J3xo a scene where the main character Lloyd is dumped by Diane, giving him a pen and telling him "will you just take this pen please and write me?"

the part "Oh Lordy" I think that it should be "Oh Lloydy" but I might be wrong

the part "In a stink ther with 4 total strangers" is referring to the scene where Lloyd talks to 4 guys and a little kid that soon takes off asking them for advice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ylgd2ef4xg

in the end of the first clip & at the beginning of the second one he is driving around in his car "on the road missing someone" =P

the "I want my baby back" over and over again can refer, tho not necessarily, to how obsessed Lloyd becomes to get her back, which he does: "And I got you back."

This whole theory might be wrong, and what i-eat-tar wrote also makes some sense since saves the day is one of say anythings many influences. =)

anywho that's my theory.

oh and if you havent seen the movie, download it and watch it now! it rocks!
