The Frontlines Lyrics
And i watched through bitter eyes
as the blood filled in the cracks black
A burning effigy
told me i should kneel 'cause
I'm worshipping
With terror, a disease
Burn the sacred oil
[chorus]
they told us there'd never come a day
they told us that we need not worry
so we fucked around, thought this shit would change
and turned our eyes away
I am the power siege
and the rush you will feel, thrill
Exploding out of me
through clenched teeth I will scream out
We're suffering
With malice you deceive
Puke sold as salvation
[chorus]
And i watched it slip away
And you watched it slip away
And we watched it slip away
Cause no one took a stand
as the blood filled in the cracks black
A burning effigy
told me i should kneel 'cause
With terror, a disease
Burn the sacred oil
they told us there'd never come a day
they told us that we need not worry
so we fucked around, thought this shit would change
and turned our eyes away
and the rush you will feel, thrill
Exploding out of me
through clenched teeth I will scream out
With malice you deceive
Puke sold as salvation
And you watched it slip away
And we watched it slip away
Cause no one took a stand

In short, this one is a war requiem of sorts, told from the eyes of the soldier forced into war as a condemnation of the corruption in politics, the trauma they suffer, and the dehumanization caused by war. It embodies the political anger and human empathy during a time of global conflict. The frontlines, it mentions, are not just the physical battlefield, but a metaphor for the mental and emotional breaking point that war drives soldiers to face/or jump from.
This is a fucking powerful song. Robb seems to be commenting on how the world has been taken over by selfish, evil bigots because no-one took a stand. Well it's time to rise my friend.
Actually ive read that its about a truck, for which they had taken much risk. "The Front Lines refers to a burrito truck, which was frequented by the band a few years before the recordings. To get on this truck, the band members had to go through one of the most dangerous areas of the city go in the shootings were commonplace. According to Flynn, the story has some humor in it, but also a serious side, as partially people were shot near the Trucks." (Its traslated with google, so dont wonder...)
