its something everyone should question when faced with others, if you peel back all the layers, all the material, the facades, if there is nothing but you. will the person you're with still be there?
I think it's about his fear of losing the one he loves if he changes who he is.
this is a beautiful song. i think he's scared of a relationship ending. not too sure though.
I think that he's questioning how faithful this person is. Like, he's saying if he 'suddenly went blind', would they still be in love with him no matter what, or would they leave him because he's got a disadvantage.

i think he's saying he's very complicated, and and he feels that she is only with him because he is in need, and if things became 'simple' then her faithfulness would be questioned. but he just is hoping that things go right, that way there wouldn't be a need to be simple or in need.
i believe he's just questioning how true this love that he is feeling is. and how the love will progress with time.
I think he's just wondering if their love would be as true if he didn't have all the things he has now.

Well, the meaning is pretty self explanatory but is still such a great song.
Personally I don't think it questions faithfulness. Just the strength of their feelings for one another. I think we all wonder what will become of our relationships when all of our stories are already known, when all of our adventures are already discussed. Where does the conversation go? And without that communication where does your relationship go? We all need things to talk about and the weather just isn't enough. If you lost that communication would your heart still beat as strong?
We all think our love is the purest and strongest thing on the planet, but it isn't until we face challenges that we realize how fragile it can be. I think he's simply asking if that love is everything it appears to be on paper.
