Our Lady in Havana Lyrics

Well I overheard an invisible voice
Miles away in a crumbling hotel

It said, this is a force like a moving sky
I say, forget all you know, we gotta run and hide

You shouted out your heartache
Nearly every night

And we can just pretend
That I can fill these shirts, these, in
With the holiday

On the cobblestones on a sign of shade
The sun will fade all the shadows that you chase

An impossible thing that cut your heart in two
So take your pick, and I'll do the same for you

A church on every corner
The mormons and christians congregate
I'm shrinking down to size
For the second day, I'm eighteen stories
Above the sea
I've got too many people on my shoulders
A high rise over me
A high rise over me...

Well there's disbelief in the streets below
Where I sold my story to a curround arrow

We took a match to the masterplan
Brought me down to earth like a treasure in the sand

And what if all the what ifs were a happy man?
You think our hands are tied
But we pen the chapters every time
You gotta realize

A church on every corner
The mormons and christians congregate
I'm shrinking down to size
For the second day, I'm eighteen stories
Above the sea
I've got too many people on my shoulders
A high rise over me
A high rise over me...

I'm pretty sure these are right...I'm not exactly sure what it means, but it's a cool song. If there are any mistakes, feel free to let me know.

Aha! I think I've figured out what this song is about. Or, I have a general idea. Perhaps it is about searching for the right religion. That's what I get out of it. 'Church on every corner', too many choices, she's 'shrinking down to size', overwhelmed with all of the different teachings. Makes sense to me. I wish more people would post their comments about The Essex Green. They're an awesome band.

Oh yeah, 'shouted out your heartache nearly every night' probably refers to prayers that go unanswered.

Greened, I only discovered this band recently and they are quickly becoming one of my favorites. This is the first song I heard of theirs and is my favorite. I have a couple of different ideas about the lyrics but won't share them with you until I'm sure... I haven't quite decided yet the meaning of the song. I just bought their Cannibal Sea cd. Have you heard it?

Here's a link to an interview with Sasha Bell, she gives a pretty good description about what the song is about:

Ugh, the end of the address keeps getting cut off. Type "html" at the end of the address in my last two posts and you'll get there.

A few corrections:

"That I can fill these shirts, these, in" It should be "shirt sleeves" instead of "shirts, these."

"On the cobblestones on a sign of shade" It should be "not a sign of shade" instead of "on a sign of shade."

"The mormons and christians congregate" It should be "Moors" instead of "Mormons."

"Where I sold my story to a curround arrow" It should be "Curandero" instead of "curround arrow."

"We took a match to the masterplan" It should be "Who" instead of "We."

Well done otherwise, though.
