Vultures Lyrics

Some of us, We're hardly ever here
The rest of us, we're born to disappear
How do I stop myself from
being just a number
How do i hold my head
to keep from going under

Down to the wire
I wanted water but
I'll walk through the fire
If this is what it takes
to take me even higher
then i'll come through
Like I do
when the world keeps
testing me, testing me, testing me

How did they find me here
what do they want from me
All of these vultures hanging
right outside my door
I hear them whisperin
they're tryin to ride it out
They've never gone this long
without a kill before

Down to the wire
I wanted water but
I'll walk through the fire
If this is what it takes
to take me even higher
then i'll come through
Like I do
when the world keeps
testing me, testing me, testing me

(solo)
Wheels up
I got to leave this evening
Can't seem to keep these vultures
out of my tree(sometimes he says trail)
Powers is made, by power being taken
I keep on running
to protect(sometimes he says control) my situation

Down to the wire
I wanted water but
I'll walk through the fire
If this is what it takes
to take me even higher
then i'll come through
Like I do
when the world keeps
testing me, testing me, testing

oooooooooooo
oooooooooooo
oooooooooooo
oooooooooooo
Whatcha gonna do about it
whatcha gonna do about it
whatcha gonna do about it

This song is amazing. The chorus is so strong lyrically. I love it. However, I don't agree with the interpretation. I think he's refering to the media. Paparazzi and the like. The second verse is what gives it away. He compares them to vultures saying how they are looking for a "kill". They get famous and get money by bringing up dirt on someone famous (power is made by power being taken), but they haven't found any on John so they're "trying to ride it out" because they haven't gone this long without finding at least a little bit of dirt on someone.

This is my favorite JM3 song. In my opinion this song is all about John's new venture into blues and his worry if it is the right thing to do (even though it's his passion).

I agree completely with you taofaft. Nothing beats this song while drivin in the city at night. Smooth song.

You kinda just have to bob your head to this and relax and agree with every word that comes out of his mouth. For all of his guitar talent, John's voice shines in this song. He's got some crazy range and it's not perfect but I love it.
