Almost Honest Lyrics

So in the meantime,
you'll be resting on my mind
For the last time,
I would leave myself behind
In the evenings
Raise the glass and tell some lies
Make a pass, impress another girl
She's easy on the eyes
She was easy
And so was I

My reflection
In the window when I ride
For Chicago
She is on the other side
Take a picture, Write a letter to my love
Well I was almost honest, I was almost honest

Been a long time
Since I lay with you in bed
Conversations full of words you never said
I got your message
but I didn't hear the ringing bell
I gave into the loneliness but I didn't give her nothing else
Which direction down this highway that I ride
To Atlanta, she is on the other side
Take a picture
Write a letter to my love
I was almost honest, well I was almost honest

My reflection
In the window when I ride
Could not save us but I swear to God I tried
Take a picture
Write a letter to my love
I was almost honest, I was almost honest cause I was almost honest

I've been listening to this song alot for the past couple weeks due to it playing all the time at my job and I love the music... today I was riding on the interstate alone and actually listened listened for once... the minute I realized it was a song about a long distance relationship, I cried.

Me and my boyfriend are going to have to split up for the summer and I pray we don't end up like this. I hope if one of us ends up messing up that we be honest with eachother... that we trust eachother... that we can actually be mature enough to uphold this... I hope.

But all in all, I love this song and I love it even more that I know what it's about. I kind of assumed he was on a tour bus when he was seeing his reflection and going to different cities. But yeah this can mean different things to different people but I know what it means to me...

Ya nailed it.

It's about struggling to tell the person before you have to leave again how much it all means. Vocalizing the importance would make the pain harder.

I think the line is: "Make a pass, IMPRESS another girl"

As for what the heck he's talking about, I don't really know how to interpret it. Anyone else want to give this a try?

My guess is that there were things in a relationship that he never told his girl, perhaps the way he truly felt about her . I have no idea what the whole verse about laying with her in bed really means.

I think this song is about a long distance relationship between a guy and his girlfriend who lives across the country("She is on the other side").

The difficult circumstances of their relationship drives the guy to cheat. He misses his girlfriend dearly and feels so lonely that he looks for solace anywhere he could find it (and he does so in the arms of another woman).

"I gave into the loneliness but I didn't give her nothing else" In this line, he tells her or himself that the other woman meant nothing to him. He was lonely and vulnerable, and she was just a temporary fix to his pain.

He contemplates whether or not he should tell his girlfriend about the encounter. He's not sure if she'll understand and he doesn't want to ruin the relationship so in the end, he decides to be only "almost honest," either not fully disclosing the details of his infidelity, or not confessing at all.

Great song. I love the "I gave into the loneliness but I didn't give her nothing else" line and way Josh sings it.

The second verse is actually

Been a long time Since I lay with you in bed Conversations full of the words you never said I got your message but I didn't hear the ringing bell I gave into the loneliness but I didn't give her nothing else Which direction down this highway that I ride To Atlanta, she is on the other side Take a picture Write a letter to my love I was almost honest, well I was almost honest

I figured it was about infidelity, but I didn't know how to interpret certain lyrics.

The first stanza is definitely about him at some bar flirting with a girl who's "easy," and do to his vulnerability, so is he.

The refrain/chorus is what I had problems interpreting, really. I thought maybe the reflection stuff was him not being able to look at himself without thinking about his girlfriend (on the other side of the reflection) due to the guilt.

And I'm not sure what he means by "almost honest." I could be that he either was "almost honest" with his girlfriend in that he didn't tell her cheated when he wrote that latter. Or, it could be that he's saying he was "almost honest" in that he almost didn't cheat, but he did. And now, it's over. This brings me to my favorite line of the song: "My reflection, in the window when I ride. Could not save us, but I swear to God I tried."

Clearly about infidelity. He is away from her a lot and gets with another lady. Being "almost honest" means that he's writing a letter but leaving certain bits out (like how he got with another lady!). So, he's rehasing his days, as anybody would in a letter to their SO, and just failing to mention his nefarious deeds.

i remember hearing josh say, or write, that this song was about a long distance relationship he was in that was basically over. however, he couldnt bring himself to break up with the girl over the phone, and wanted to wait until he could see her again. so in the meantime, his conversations with her were "almost honest." even though he may have flirted with another girl, i dont believe there was any infidelity. "i gave into the loneliness, but i didnt give her nothing else"

Here's the Josh quote that bri10s was talking about from a vh1 article:

"Kelley may soon be pulling a Mariah on us if he decides to go with director Marcus Raboy's vision for the clip for his second single, "Almost Honest," which would essentially be a continuation of the first installment. The title track off his latest LP came about when Kelley was nearing the end of a two-and-a-half-year relationship and just didn't have the heart to break up with his girlfriend over the phone.

"I had to be 'almost honest' for two months," he explained. "It was tough to do, but it was one of those situations where you don't tell the whole truth of how you feel because you're so worried about hurting someone's feelings. It was really a weak thing for me to do. You should just be truthful about it."
