Incommunicado Lyrics

i wish the words would fail me just for once
(just once)
keep incommunicado
(you don't say a word)
live for the present tense, and come to my senses
(come pick me up)
just like a despera-a-ado
(a-a-ado)

we talked for twenty minutes, by the time the party ended you'd forgotten
and i'm still thinking about it five years later

you spoke an unfamiliar dialect
(comme ca?)
two and a half months over
(over)
next thing i knew someone had called for the check
(check please)
and you were gone before we turned it over

i dreamed we were alone all night
in a house made out of beds,
and nothing happened

i think about it every time i see you
that's when i try to remember
there were never any terms we could agree to

now can i please have a moment of your time?
(can i please have a moment of your time?)
'for i have the strength to change my mind
(read my mind)

Cover art for Incommunicado lyrics by Harvey Danger

This song, i think, is about "the one that got away"

"we talked for twenty minutes, by the time the party ended you'd forgotten and i'm still thinking about it five years later." a girl he met briefly, who he felt he had a connection with, they haven't spoken since, he's still thinking about her and what might have been.

he tells himself it's stupid the way he is feeling "live for the present tense, and come to my senses"

"next thing i knew someone had called for the cheque (cheque please) and you were gone before we turned it over" that i'd imagine is the awful date he had with her.

"i think about it every time i see you that's when i try to remember there were never any terms we could agree to" he sees her, he wants her, then he tries to remember that they wern't right for each other but that part gets blocked out (i've been in a simaler situation with an ex)

"i dreamed we were alone all night in a house made out of beds, and nothing happened"

that's self explaintry, but such a great line, i absouloutly LOVE it...

they are such a GREAT band.
