Fix what’s wrong, but don’t rewrite what the artist wrote. Stick to the official released version — album booklet, label site, verified lyric video, etc. If you’re guessing, pause and double-check.
Respect the structure
Songs have rhythm. Pages do too. Leave line breaks where they belong. Don’t smash things together or add extra empty space just for looks.
Punctuation counts (but vibe-editing doesn’t)
Correct typos? Yes. Re-punctuating a whole verse because it ‘looks better’? Probably not. Keep capitalization and punctuation close to the official source.
Don’t mix versions
If you’re editing the explicit version, keep it explicit. If it’s the clean version, keep it clean. No mashups.
Let the lyrics be lyrics
This isn’t the place for interpretations, memories, stories, or trivia — that’s what comments are for. Keep metadata, translations, and bracketed stage directions out unless they’re officially part of the song.
Edit lightly
If two lines are wrong… fix the two lines. No need to bulldoze the whole page. Think ‘surgical,’ not ‘remix.’
When in doubt, ask the crowd
Not sure what they’re singing in that fuzzy bridge? Drop a question in the comments and let the music nerds swarm. Someone always knows.
Kickass little gir,l goin to a party
eatin blue Smarties cus shes rock and rollgonna do some coke n maybe do some pokin
gonna spin some records for a Jack and coke
wasted little DJ, fillin up the floor
and your records are all boring cos you're cool as hell
everybodys flyin, everybodys slidin, slowly suicidin in a tiled cell a tiled cell
It was no good time to see your face
no good time to get erased
no good time to sink into the ground
graphic designer, you could look no finer
in your eyeliner and your silas jeans
livin in the eastend, with your teenage girlfriend
everydays a weekend and a real cool scene
cus everybodys flyin slippin and aslidin
slowly suicidin in a tiled cell
you'll go out together, holdin hands forever
in shiny boots of leather lookin like lou reed
just like lou reed
It was no good time to see your face
no good time to feel erased
no good time to sink into the ground
It was no good time to see your face
no good time to get erased
no good time to suck up your lies
no good time to see your face
no good time to get erased
no good time to sink into the ground
"Wasted little DJ, fillin up the floor
and your records are all boring cos you're cool as hell"
That's my favorite Graham Coxon line. He's such a great commentator on social trends and the concept of coolness. So many of his songs just drip with irony. This line works so well for him, because he's one of the few artists who can make genuine, thoughtful, creative albums which are also fun and kick ass.
