The Jungler Lyrics
oh it must be over there
see in the tall weed
with his head leaned by an anthill
by some water with a trumpet
lightly sleeps the jungler
but I'm not too sure
that we'd go out like that
so when we're older maybe sooner
we'll take the fumes from factories to love us
half important not important
not unless you go for gusto
maybe we could overtake him
with a trumpet
lightly sleeps the jungler
wakes up and there goes with the gold
but not all the gold
safely waits in this place
and when it's clear I'll get our gold
I'll get our gold.
when we're older
we will thank the jungler
for all the gold that comes
out our pockets
see in the tall weed
with his head leaned by an anthill
by some water with a trumpet
lightly sleeps the jungler
that we'd go out like that
so when we're older maybe sooner
we'll take the fumes from factories to love us
not unless you go for gusto
maybe we could overtake him
with a trumpet
lightly sleeps the jungler
wakes up and there goes with the gold
but not all the gold
safely waits in this place
and when it's clear I'll get our gold
I'll get our gold.
we will thank the jungler
for all the gold that comes
out our pockets

The Jungle by Upton Sinclair possibly?
this song= new James Bond theme
this is probably my favorite midlake song, alongside young bride. bamnan and silvercork was such a great album.
this is where I got my username. I love love love this song. Probably the first Midlake song I fell in love with. Good times.
Social Security and other things..
That is all fine and dandy, but does anyone know what the hell a 'Jungler' is??
The juggler is the economy.
Whenever I hear this song I think of The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. I think "The Jungler" is the bosses of the factory workers that Upton references in his book. As the workers are struggling with despicable wages and conditions in these factories, more focused on the children in such factories..as there are references to age. "so when were older maybe sooner." these lines strike me significantly with The Jungle.. "when we're older we will thank the jungler for all the gold that comes out our pockets" The song is all about the greed of the man "in charge" taking all of the profits for himself and then those affected theorizing about getting "him" back and giving him his just rewards for all of his petty greed. In the end it's all just ruse they play out for themselves in their heads because they couldn't actually pull any of it off as much as they hate everything that the amoral man in charge has forced upon them. If it wasn't for 'The Jungler' they may have become corrupt themselves.
it's just a theory. :] but I definitely agree with DenverBound that it has to do with Upton Sinclair's book.
The booklet says (though 'amestheamazing' is generally correct):
oh it must be over there see in the tall weeds with his head leaned by an ant hill by some water with a trumpet lightly sleeps the jungler
but i'm not too sure that we'd go out like that so when we're older maybe sooner we'll take the fumes from factories to love us
half important not important not unless you go for gusto maybe we could overtake him with a trumpet lightly sleeps the jungler wakes up and there goes with the gold but not all the gold safety waits in this place and when it's clear i'll get our gold i'll get our gold
when we're older we will thank the jungler for all the gold that comes out our pockets
