So Much Trouble Lyrics

did you go to montreal
or hide behind the package store
you're hanging out with your old friends
with them they knew you'd see the end

you're in so much trouble
can't hide in your covers
it's forgetting that would beat it all
easier when they don't ever call

i don't think i want to think about it
how the fall is coming down
the light is leaving and it's hard to breathe
buried in a pile of leaves

we don't want to make mistakes
we don't want to be the same
i hand the finger to my fate
he doesn't know and he cannot see that far

i don't think i want to think about it
how the fall is coming down
the light is leaving and it's hard to breathe
buried in a pile of leaves

we don't want to ever change
we don't want to make mistakes
i hand the finger to my fate
he doesn't know me and he cannot see that far

nights get so long and cold
fewer places we can go
you're in so much trouble
can't hide in your covers

i don't think i want to think about it...

you're in so much trouble
can't hide in your covers ...

i think this song means they are growing up and when you do stupid things you cant be a little kid anymore and hide in the covers, just like the song said. i think this song symbolizes something someone did wrong that they dont want to think about, and the song is pretty self-explanitory

To me it's about being in a new situation. Especially the parts saying "we don't want to make mistakes, we don't want to be the same". Both expressing the desire to be unique, and keep changing, but without giving up the identity of what you're used to.

we don't want to make mistakes we don't want to be the same i hand the finger to my fate he doesn't know and he cannot see that far

the breakdown that follows that is gorgeous, it appears in other bits of the song as well.

He's desparately begging someone he respects to not be like everyone else. The person is 'in so much trouble' of losing their own persona because they're becoming part of 'crowd', and he's calling the person on it, not allowing them to 'hide under the covers'

I'm really seeing it differently. It sounds like there's a girl that had a boyfriend, love interest, or really needy friends. The singer comes along and they fool around. Now she's in so much trouble... not because her b/f knows, it's just that she's guilty.

Now the relationship is questionable since she keeps thinking about how she shouldn't be doing this right now - but she wants both.

The singer and the girl want to keep going but be quiet about it - and she also doesn't want the same relationship that she's in right now. The girl's love interest also isn't that smart, given the last line.

we don't want to make mistakes we don't want to be the same i hand the finger to my fate he doesn't know and he cannot see that far

The singer is predicting the end, of course:

I don't think i want to think about it How the fall is coming down

And I think this wraps up at the beginning of the song. So maybe the singer and the girl split it off for a bit and don't talk for a couple days. He doesn't know what she's going to choose: him or the other guy - or nothing at all.

sounds like the person the song is about may be having a falling out with old friends, they just can't pretend to have anything in common anymore. maybe the person misses the summer, when they were all good friends, and feels like the fall is smothering them along with their other issues. maybe the person did something to upset their friends and regrets it and just wants to hide (under the covers) but knows they'll have to leave.

i like logansrun51's explanation.

also, fixed: "nights get so long and cold, fewer places we can go. we're in so much trouble, can't hide in your covers"
