Heretics & Killers Lyrics

They called me the man with the blood of Christ honesty
But tonight I drink with heathens and the finest of our blasphemies

In wine there's truth but in silence there's surrender
A screaming for the silence in stunned suspicious terror
Built a temple in my life and used God to seal the pillars
After twenty years of fighting young heretics and killers
I watch my temple fall to pieces at the first signs of oncoming weather
Fell to my knees just like Jesus in the cave, knew I would die
But my lips could only; I am not your son, so why have you forsaken me?
There's a hole in my heart but it just makes me unholy
Crucified that night and walked away with alter-egos
Like the prison priest who preached his dead and buried gospel

While my faith is in ruins my duty breathes strong
I'm a parrot in a cage saying prayers to belong to a textbook
Of my crying, lying, dying history; a time so full of life that I was anything but me

Since the band has confirmed that this album is a story and this third of that story is told by the prison preist we know that is fact. the interpretation part is what the priest is thinking just before Kezia is executed.

I think that the priest is regretting taking part in a society that allows this kind of punishment. he is also doubting his religion, not that he doesnt believe in god, its that he doesnt believe in his organized version of religion what has him mindlessly saying prayers (like a parrot) from the bible (which is like a textbook full of formulas)

After Rody says "history" for the final time in this song, does anyone else think they hear the "toasty" soundbyte from Mortal Kombat?

They're both lines from "Blindfolds Aside." There were added to the song for dramatic effect, probably to link the two songs. Protest does this alot on this album. The two lines are:

"Tonight we sleep as killers" and "As we break the cryptic morning"

Thanks a lot, I can clearly tell that's what's said after listening to it with those lyrics in front of me. I almost had the first one, but couldn't make out the last word at first. The second I had not a clue, but that makes sense and is what he says after listening closely.

tottally awsome song witha intro to end all intros, i think its the preist narratrators "backstory" so to speak. I think he might be a cult leader, but its not my best theory, because he seems to compare himself to jesus alot

Cpt_Blood_Sausage has the meaning, in my opinion.

As for the song itself, it's just so awesome, it can't be explained.

Well, the whole album is just too great.

And yeah, the video is pretty damned rad.
