I think that the lyrics and primal beat of this song make it abundantly clear what it's about. Macro is a beautiful, sensual description of sex. It has a little bit of a religious tone about it, not surprising since Martin himself said that he sees a connection between sex and religion.

sigh I love that man. If this is what sex is like for him, then I'd give my right arm for a few hours with him, lol.

It is about the beauty of the universe and the evolution of the soul. Dave Gahan made a sacrifice and although he had initial heartache and pain, he is now reaping the rewards with spiritual growth and soul evolution. This is about the journey all souls have to go through.

Now I remember Martin Gore sang lead in this song.

I love the beat of this song, I just the lyrics actually, well, meant something.

It seems to me this song has undertones of the effect certain psychedelic drugs have on a person; namely the expansion of awareness, especially apparent during intercourse ans climax.

Maybe it's just me.

I used to think it's about sex, but after reading the lyrics more carefully it's quite clear to me that it's about drugs. It sounds like a pretty accurate description of a party or concert as seen from the eyes of someone who's under the influence of drugs.
