Atmosphere Lyrics

Once I had a halo
But then it caught on fire
Once I knew a good man
But he turned into a liar
Once I saw a blind man
Still looking for his eyes
Once I met a bastard
Who watched his father die

And now, I'll tell you how
I know them all

I'm looking down on the atmosphere
I took my number, and I waited in line
I'm not frail from the exposure
I'm taking pictures with my mind
I'm looking down on the atmosphere
I took my number, and I waited in line
I'm not frail from the exposure
I'm taking pictures with my mind

Once I met a leader
Born from genocide
Once I knew a preacher
To his faith, he said goodbye
Once I met a good girl
Who shows her face no more
It's hard to learn your lesson
When you become the whole world's whore

And now, I'll tell you how
I know them all

I'm looking down on the atmosphere
I took my number, and I waited in line
I'm not frail from the exposure
I'm taking pictures with my mind
I'm looking down on the atmosphere
I took my number, and I waited in line
I'm not frail from the exposure
I'm taking pictures with my mind

I'm looking down on the atmosphere
I'm looking down on the atmosphere
I know them all...

And now, I'll tell you how
I know them all
Looking down on the atmosphere
Looking down on the atmosphere
I took my number, and I waited in line
I'm looking down on the atmosphere

Yes the did put the wrong lyrics.

It about a guy who has died and is looking down from heaven. He was waiting infront of the gates of heaven, until it was his time to be judged. He is with God and his life flashes before his eyes, and God asks him if he's worthy, and he tells him that he thas seen alot of things, he's been to alot of places, and he has sinned. And he asks for forgiveness, that is why he's not frail. He has belief that he's forgiven for all his sins.

I'm not trying to push religion or anything.

this is basically a song about the shortcomings of today's society, and all the corruption and insensitivity that can be found in people today. and he's telling this from a detached perspective. I don't understand the part where he goes "I took my number, and i waited in line"...anyone have any ideas?

great song on a great CD.

Great song. The guitar has riff that sounds just like something Led Zeppelin would make.

It seems to me (hypothetically), that he was speaking as if he were on his way to heaven. He took his number, and is waiting in line for judgment, and while he's up there, he's looking down on all the people on earth.

He is seeing the world as it is. With all its pain and hurt and evil, and he is seeing every bit of it. He watches it all and keeps it is his mind, and he claims that understanding what humanity is capable of has not made him fragile, but made him stronger.

are you sure it's not "to his faith he said goodbye" and "watched his father die"?

While this is less complex than all of their other songs, it has a very strong cryptic meaning.

I believe this song is about an angel that looks down from Earth from years ago in disgust at what humanity has come to.
