The Sinner In Me Lyrics
If I could just hide
The sinner inside
And keep him denied
How sweet life would be
If I could be free
From the sinner in me
I'll never be a saint
That's not a picture that your memory paints
Not renowned for my patience
I'm not renowned for my restraint
But you're always around
You can always be found
To pick me up when I'm on the ground
If I could just hide
The sinner inside
And keep him denied
How sweet life would be
If I could be free
From the sinner in me
I'm still recovering
Still getting over all the suffering
More known for my anger
Than for any other thing
But you've always tried
To be by my side
And catch my fall when I start to slide
If I could just hide
The sinner inside
And keep him denied
How sweet life would be
If I could be free
From the sinner in me
The sinner inside
And keep him denied
How sweet life would be
If I could be free
From the sinner in me
That's not a picture that your memory paints
Not renowned for my patience
I'm not renowned for my restraint
But you're always around
You can always be found
To pick me up when I'm on the ground
The sinner inside
And keep him denied
How sweet life would be
If I could be free
From the sinner in me
Still getting over all the suffering
More known for my anger
Than for any other thing
But you've always tried
To be by my side
And catch my fall when I start to slide
The sinner inside
And keep him denied
How sweet life would be
If I could be free
From the sinner in me

This song reminds me of the best movie of all time, Fight Club. I want to be a sinner year round and have fun with it.
I originally thought this song was about someone trying to turn away from their sinful ways, that always had someone there to help them when they fell, but i was thinking about it today and maybe that person i thought the song was talking about, the one thats always there is actually "the sinner in me" who knows? to everyone their own
To me it sounds like a song about addiction (yeah I know, alot of people say that about most DM songs, but this is what I feel when listening to it.).
The sinner is the addiction.
i see an abusive story here.the sinner on me, the anger, ill never bee a saint, not ronound for my restraint. the narrotor is possibly being abusive, a lack of slef control, and the other ont he relationship is staying, putting up with it, holding out for him.
A different view of this song. And probably far off and half baked but I see this as two sides to the narrator. The sinner and the self. Like for everyone on the planet they have their bad side and that bad side drives you to make stupid decision or act in aggression etc etc, the self is always there to pick the sinner up and the sinner is always there to act on behalf of the self, when a bad break up happens or something along those lines. and the cycle goes on. I don't think this is about any form of drugs or addiction. With depeche mode the music tells a good amount of the story and the music doesn't have the same vibe as those about drugs.
Pour moi, il ne s'agit pas de drogue en tant que substance addictive, mais la dualité universelle de l'être humain, sans cesse à l'affût de ses difficultés pour exciter son côté obscur. Je préfère en tout cas, l'interpréter de cette manière. Lol
