Yeah this song definitely seems like he is talking about death or suicide. To me it's like he can't take life anymore, he can't find peace of mind but he still believe in it, he can't die so just hang on and suffer well. "The angel led me when i was blind" to me is like when you don't know the truth about things like your sins then you learn, you have more fun when you are blind/ignorant because its so much harder to live the right way. That's just my take on it. Haunting song.
i also think it's about a death experience he had. either the one in 1995 when he cut his wrists or the one in 1996 when he was dead for 2 minutes.

Having a bad time in your life and someone you love is not stand by you. You overcome of your bad time by suffering well for him or her.I think it's a gained experience which Dave had while drug problems.Maybe he really talked to an angel who knows:)
Embracing life with it's ups-and-downs, including all the pain and suffering. Leave behind a life of comfort and "suffer well", as it's what's only natural for our growth. Being blind to all the suffering does not mean it doesn't exist and the real treasure is in the knowledge of the truth.
It is about Dave's near-death experience. And some say that Dave was speaking to Martin. Oh well...
