Streets of Love Lyrics

You're awful bright, You're awful smart
I must admit you broke my heart
The awful truth is really sad
I must admit I was awful bad

While lovers laughed and music plays
I stumbled by and I hide my pain
The lamps are lit the moon is gone
I think I've crossed the Rubicon

Walked the streets of love
And they're full of tears
Walked the streets of love
And they are full of tears

While music pumps from passing cars
A couple watched me from above
A band just played the wedding march
and the cornerstore mends broken hearts
The woman ends if for her debts
It's free of charge just one more chance

Walked the streets of love
And they are full of tears
Walked the streets of love
For a thousand years

You had the moves, you had the cards
I must admit you were awful smart
The awful truth is awful sad
I must admit I was awful bad

I walked the streets of love
For a thousand years
Walked the streets of love
And they're drenched in tears

How could nobody have posted about this song? It's been on here for almost 2 months! I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it.. After going to see the Stones in Moncton (amazing concert), I bought the new CD.. It's so good and this song just stuck out to me.. Although it's an ultimate break-up song and I haven't broken up with anyone lately, I can say that it tells you that all in love is not easy, especially when it seems like everyone around you is in it and you're not. I've cried so many times when I heard this song.. and I'm not usually one to cry. It could also mean that this person here has given up on love because it always ends in heartache, (which is true no matter how optimistic you are..).. Every good thing comes to an end and not every shows their honest intentions in life. I have learnt this time and time again, been played time and time again.. But this is no place for a personal story. This song means so much to me.

The honesty of it hits you slow and lingers like a ghost. RJ

I think the chorus says it all nicely. He feels so old and weary after his many relationships. So many have been sad that the streets are drenched with tears. His experience with love has been generally tragic.

Great song...and for me is a great message...it represents my love life...so many heartaches and suddenly as you said everything turns to an end...it's sad but I love this song...it represents how hard is to find a true love...when there's so much to hate this days...

Just saw this song live two days ago, the Halifax concert. This song is so, so ,so much better live than studio version, so much better.

@TwistedSister I was there...in the rain, on September 18 if I remember correctly. This was my favourite song of the show. It made me think of my daughter who was 4 back then.

Great song, and I think the previous comments have been well said. I like the part - "A band just played the wedding march and the cornerstore mends broken hearts" It kinda illustrates two extremes: one couple getting married and being as happy as can be. Another guy experiencing heartache and dealing with it. It reminds me of some Merle Haggard lyrics - "Memories and drinks don't mix too well Jukebox records don't play those wedding bells"

I thought this was an old song of theirs. Shocked to find that its relatively new. Great ballad.
