The Enemy Lyrics

I finally found myself
I tried to erase all this hate from my body
I tried to end all the lies, all the pain that I caused everyone
But it all seemed so fucking useless

I can’t forgive
And I can’t forget
Don’t you know who the fuck I am
I’m the enemy

I’ve lived a life of regret
I’ve had this burden of guilt suffocating
It’s time to shed this disguise
And it’s time to rise and destroy
Everyone in my fucking path

I can’t forgive
And I can’t forget
Don’t you know who the fuck I am
I’m the enemy

Take a good look at me
I’m your enemy

Don’t try to make amends
There’s just no need to pretend it will all be ok
You can try to run and you can try to hide
But it’s all fucking pointless

I can’t forgive
And I can’t forget
Don’t you know who the fuck I am
I’m the enemy

Yea, Mark Hunter's vocals are so sick.

And I agree with the meaning.

And yeah, it IS the best song off the album, also IMO.

The acoustic guitar at the begining and the end makes the song really interesting plus Mark's vocals makes it a real insane song!!!

I also agree with the meaning, but here it is a little more in depth.

This song is about a man who is a criminal (hense "enemy") but not only has he decided to stop feeling bad about his crimes, but continue to do them because he feels that it is his role:

I can’t forgive And I can’t forget Don’t you know who the fuck I am I’m the enemy

So knowing that he is the "enemy," he continues his crimes with the belief that being the "enemy" is his role and purpose in life.

Awesome song, GREAT vocals, and nice intro/outro

crimial? are our enemies simply those who break the law; might he not be the enemy of the west; someone who cannot forget a childhood ruined by our armies or political powers to me he sounds like an 'evil terrorist' particularly a member of the IRA, but considering todays political climate some kind of turbened and bearded red commie north korean eye-rakie from he axis of evil with a yellow belly preparing to open a whole can of whoop ass on our boys. then again he might be a criminal preparing to o some insurance fraud or steal an ol ladies handbag

Personally I don't see the criminal connection ... unless one of the artists who wrote the song were criminals (don't believe any were).

So I think it is highly unlikely that the story would be told from the point of view of a criminal (let alone put a "positive" spin on a criminal).

I believe the enemy is in reference to society. Given metal's stereotypes in society and the general notions of metalheads it could be about the genre even. The pain they have caused could be to their family / friends, through their actions (be it involvement in metal, bridges they've burned, people they've emotionally hurt). This is their struggle ... should they apoligise for becoming the "enemy" or should they embrace that tag??

By the end of the song they've embraced the tag of "enemy" ... and are willing to be a target for everyone (to save others) or simply a statement of this is who I am like it or lump it!

My Interpretation

Song Fact

I think this is about a criminal (probably murderer) that has been regretting all the crimes he has committed, and has now decided that he's just going to live with it, and isn't going to repress the feelings anymore. Aside from that, this is the best song off Roadrunner United, IMO. Coz it's got Mark Hunter on vox.
