Streets of Fire (Destroyer cover) Lyrics

Come on, come out of the rain
You're not impressed, you're just too learned
I took the book, I lit the page
Your sabbatical was burning

Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet fires in the street
Let's sully every stage
Lick my lips, twist my hips
But Contessa
I already did

Some things work
But me, I choose to lose my skin in the dirt
This whiskey priest, he burned the church
To keep his girls alive

Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet fires in the street
Let's sully every stage we meet
Lick my lips, twist my hips
But Contessa
I already did

Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet fire in the street
Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet fire in the street
Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet fire in the street
Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet fire in the street
Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet fire in the street
Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet fires in the street
Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet fires in the street
Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet fires in the street

This was originally a Destroyer song. From the same album as 'Breakin' The Law', 'We'll Build Them A Golden Bridge."

It's a matter of false parallelism, it may sound fine, but grammatically it's just a horrible way of saying it. And it's also certainly oppressed.

I adore this song. It'll mean everything to me at any moment of my life, such as trying to get back together with an old boyfriend that's worried everything will change because of hind-sight bias, how I burned all my journals because I couldn't take what I was thinking about. I spend a lot of time in theaters and a common theme throughout my life is making out with boys in dressing rooms. Every boy I've kissed I've at some point kissed in a dressing room. It's just an absolutely beautiful song.

I hear impressed as opposed to oppressed.

Anyway. To me this song is about trying too hard and taking too many risks for something that isn't necessarily worth it.

i think this song is about relization. "come on come out of the rain." And lighting the book on fire symbolizes a new direction and new beliefs. everytime i listen to this song i picture buildings burning down but everyone is smiling and just moving on.

I like WOXvonWubbins suggestion best. Haha. But no really, great song. Sorry I can't help more, bt Bejar hardly ever makes sense lyrically. But that's what so damn great about it. Interpretation!

i tend to hear "depressed" rather than "oppressed", but oppressed works too. I think its about not taking yourself too seriously and just living passionately and in the moment. but yeah, awesome song! pretty much love the whole twin cinema album
