Distance, I'll keep my distance
These things I never seem to meet
So I'll leave the murder scene
Honey, What got broke here
Won't go back together again
So I'll leave this while I can
Here
Here
Here
Here
Nothing, to be scared of
My dreams they keep a hold of me
My guide when I can't see
Call, I will be there
I'm sure your passing the test
I wish you all the best
Here

Here
These things I never seem to meet
So I'll leave the murder scene
Won't go back together again
So I'll leave this while I can
Here
Here
Here
My dreams they keep a hold of me
My guide when I can't see
I'm sure your passing the test
I wish you all the best

It's "These things I never seem to MEAN"
It's about putting "Distance" between yourself and your ex because you continuously hurt each other whether you mean to or not.
Without meaning to put the entire meaning on my relationship with my ex, it's a eulogy for a relationship that's ended with some harsh words and bad situations despite the fact that there are still tender feelings involved.
Whenever I was with this object of my affections, I sometimes spitefully hurt her because of the pain she caused me when she ended it. And in the end I realised I couldn't be her friend like she wanted, because deep down I hated her for hurting me so badly.
I love this song because it's tender, dark and full of sorrow like the situation it portrays.

Could this be about a relationship breaking up? I love editors - saw them when they supported franz :D
Yeah I agree with bloc_party15. I love the lines 'I'll leave this while I can' and 'what got broke here wont go back together again'...gut wrenching lyrics. Shows that feeling when a relationship has totally broken down and theres no way of fixing it.
He's obviously in pain about this, but feels he needs to walk away while he can before they get too hurt perhaps...
'I wish u all the best'...very poignant.
I love the Editors, saw them at V (Weston Park) this year and they were brilliant.
I love this song! Just discovered it a few weeks ago and its got this eery underlying tone that makes you feel the pain is he going through (or went through). Its real and definetely speaking of past relationship...
Haha, Joy Division have a song, Candidate, with these lyrics: Please keep your distance, The trail leads to here, There's blood on your fingers, Brought on by fear.
And Editors: Distance, I'll keep my distance These things I never seem to meet So I'll leave the murder scene
When these lyrics where presented together by a Dutch interviewer (magazine was OOR) to Tom Smith, he was really surprised. He didn't even know the song.
The pure emotion felt in this song, is absolutely beautiful. Yes it's old now but I have just rediscovered it but hearing it through my headphones makes me cry. The lyrics signify perfectly a break up, and how falling out of love is necessary but nearly impossible.
