Jason Lyrics

Jason, you're the only one
Jason, like a steady son
Like that, you're the only one
Take that, when the runner's come

When the right dragon comes around
When the knight horses burn the ground

Jason, you're the only one
Jason, like a steady son

(You're the only one)

Jason, you're the circle sun
Jason, run the rabbit run
Like that, you're the steady gun
Like that, what the Argon won

When the right dragon comes around
When the knight horses burn the ground
When the right you gave me
To make it through the night
When the right dragon comes around

(You're the only one)

We were young and noble
Riding on a plane for freedom run
A plane for freedom run

Yes: It is inspired by the Greek hero Jason.

That does not mean that it's not homoerotic.

Besides, you don't get much more homoerotic than Greek mythology.

Sounds like a bitter break-up to me. Sufjan has got to be asking for gay rumors when he writes songs like this...

I hope you've grown up a bit in the years since making this narrow minded comment.

Actually it's not about a break up at all, so no need for 'gay rumors.'

As with many other Sufjan Stevens songs, this one has to do with a story in the bible, in this case, the story of Jason. Jason lets 'runners' (refugees, Paul and Silas) stay at his house. His house was searched by 'knights' and he was forced to come before the ruler, but when neither Paul or Silas were found, he was released on bail.

Wow, I can't believe people would be so ignorant about Sufjan to think this was a homoerotic song AT ALL. This song isn't actually reference to the Biblical myth (or maybe it is partially), but actually the Greek myth of Jason and the Golden Fleece, which is perhaps the greatest Hero story of all Greek mythology. You can tell these because of the reference to the Argon, because the heroes who went on the quest for the Golden Fleece were called the Argonauts. Albeit I don't know much about the Biblical myth -- it could have referenced the Greek myth (a lot of Christianity and Greek stories cross over) but I know for sure because of the Argon reference that this is inspired by the Greek myth, probably just a song about how he was a great hero.

Haha! You don't get much more homoerotic than Greek mythology, do you?

I think the electronica is wonderful. It feels "outside" the "Sufjan genre" in a lot of ways, but it's still unique. Kinda like "Winner Needs a Wand" in that way, I think.

Here are the exact lyrics for this song, transcribed from Sufjan's handwriting in the first pressing of the album. The lyrics are originally written without line breaks.

Jason: you're the only one. Jason, like a steady son. Like that, you're the only one. Take that, when the runner's come. When the right dragon comes around. When the knight horses burn the ground. Jason, you're the only one. Jason, like a steady son; (you're the only one). Jason, you're the circle sun. Jason, run the rabbit run. Like that, you're the steady gun. Like that, what the Argon won. When the right dragon comes around. When the knight horses burn the ground. When the right you gave me to make it through the night, when the right dragon comes around: (you're the only one). When we were young and noble riding on a plane for freedom run, a plane for freedom run.

As we all know, Sufjan uses A. Biblical B. Mythological and C. Historical references in his lyrics. Sometimes he talks from his point of view, sometimes from a womans, a little boys, an old mans, a dead persons. etc. He sort of conglomerates these references with his personal experiences. Unless he says "This song is about me" we can never know. To me, this is a song about appreciation, maybe romance gone wrong, and as always nostalgia.

well i think we can safely say that electronica is no longer "outside the Sufjan genre" although he's been writing electronica since Enjoy Your Rabbit great track, this man has a way with words.
