Rice Pudding Lyrics
Rice pudding
I'm taking you down to the placement field
And when I find you underneath the grass
I'll know you feel this way, feel this way
Because I know you, and I feel you
And I'll feed you rice pudding at the benefit concert
Yeah, baby, I'll feed you rice pudding at the concert
Rock'n'roll, sugar cane
I'm taking you down to the placement field
And when I find you underneath the grass
I'll know you feel this way, feel this way
Because I know you, and I feel you
And I'll feed you rice pudding at the benefit concert
Yeah, baby, I'll feed you rice pudding at the concert
Rock'n'roll, sugar cane

This song is almost as good as rice pudding.
This song os painful
I don't know why, but I love this song. I love it when the chaotic guitar playing gives way to the relative order of the song and I love how he sings the last line of the song. I imagine this song to be about someone who has just met the love of his life at a benefit concert, and the guitar represents the thoughts of that man as he rehashes the day.
Then again, it could just be a weird, silly song.
It sounds like he's writing a love song from the viewpoint of a really, really strung-out rock star.
Here are the exact lyrics for this song, transcribed from Sufjan's handwriting in the first pressing of the album. The lyrics are originally written without line breaks.
Rice Pudding: I'm taking you down to the placement field. And when I find you underneath the grass I'll know you feel this way, feel this way. Because I know you, and I feel you, and I'll feed you rice pudding at the benefit concert. Yeah baby, I'll feed you rice pudding at the concert. rock-n-roll, sugar cane.
Reminds me of '10,000 Roses (For Me)' from the 'Marzuki' band sound era thing that he was involved with.
