Talking Like Turnstiles Lyrics
Sometimes, I talk like a turnstile
When I have had too much to drink
A tangled tongue like English ivy
Just like a film dubbed out of sync
The phone is ringing in the guest room
A muffled voice on the machine
It's either someone I don't want to talk to
Or someone selling what I don't need
As I'm waiting for you to come on home
Sometimes, I fall in fits of laughter
My bottle shatters on the floor
And you apologize profusely
For the drunkard on the lawn
I'll change, love, change
I'll change for you
Because even slurred words can contain some truth
I'll change, love, change
I'll change for you
When I am ready to
When I have had too much to drink
A tangled tongue like English ivy
Just like a film dubbed out of sync
A muffled voice on the machine
It's either someone I don't want to talk to
Or someone selling what I don't need
As I'm waiting for you to come on home
My bottle shatters on the floor
And you apologize profusely
For the drunkard on the lawn
I'll change for you
Because even slurred words can contain some truth
I'll change for you
When I am ready to

Great song. The meanings pretty clear.
sometimes, i fall in fits of laughter my bottle shatters on the floor and you apologize profusely for the drunkard on the lawn
I just picture a drunk Ben Gibbard screaming on some poor girls lawn. And her apologizing to all the people passing by. Funny.
this song is just.. i don't even know. it's perfect.
I love this song! It's my favoite! I don't know where it was originally from but its on my "Plans" Vinyl, and it sounds amazing on the vinyl!
TALKING LIKE TURNSTILES>>>>>>TALKING LIKE TURNSTILES....Watch "Directions" and be Enlightened.
PLAY IT AGAIN>>>>PLAY IT AGAIN......Go Death Cab
how can no one comment this? i love it.
this song is about ben giving up his alcohol addiction for the girl he loves, but obviously the stubborn boy is going to do it when he feels "ready to"
It's about Ben Gibbard wondering whether he's ready to settle down with a girl for the rest of his life, as evidenced by "I'll change, love, change/I'll change for you/when I'm ready to." And the slurred words in "even slurred words contain some truth" are probably "I love you" and he's wondering if those words do indeed contain truth and he's ready to stick with the girl in question.
"i'll change, love, change i'll change for you when i am ready to"
Wonderful.
i love this on 'directions'
amazing song.
i think this is one of the better death cab songs. cannot believe it is not on plans. 'even slurred words can contain some truth'. i love this so much.
