Cross-Eyed Bear Lyrics
I broke your doll
It was cross eyed, that's all
I only wanted to help it see straight
A half broken moon
Sooner than soon
I was up on your wall
Smaller than small
In a half-painted frame
The wood wouldn't stain
I hope that reminds you
Of the part you couldn't change in me
So push me I'll fall
If you pull me I'll drown
If you're gonna be nailin me down
I won't rise again
I scratched your car
Where the bird left a stain
I only wanted to help you see straight
A half broken moon
Sooner than soon
I was up on your wall
Smaller than small
In a half painted frame
Where the wood wouldn't stain
I hope that reminds you
Of the part you couldn't change in me
So push me I'll fall
If you pull me I'll drown
If you're gonna be nailin me down
I won't rise again
I won't rise again
I'm not God, I'm not God
I love you but I'm not God...
It was cross eyed, that's all
I only wanted to help it see straight
A half broken moon
Sooner than soon
I was up on your wall
Smaller than small
In a half-painted frame
The wood wouldn't stain
I hope that reminds you
Of the part you couldn't change in me
If you pull me I'll drown
If you're gonna be nailin me down
I won't rise again
Where the bird left a stain
I only wanted to help you see straight
A half broken moon
Sooner than soon
I was up on your wall
Smaller than small
In a half painted frame
Where the wood wouldn't stain
I hope that reminds you
Of the part you couldn't change in me
If you pull me I'll drown
If you're gonna be nailin me down
I won't rise again
I won't rise again
I love you but I'm not God...

this song is so beautiful. it's about a relationship where both people were in love but just couldnt change for each other.
very sad, but very beautiful
"I'm not God" refers to him not being able to control everything. This song is mostly about how someone tries to fix something with good intentions and they accidently make it worse. Then the person(lover) gets angry puts them aside and tries to change them. The chorus is really depressing especially the end about not rising again. She(he) telling them that their actions have consequences... Lovely song surprised there weren't more posts.
This is actually a remake of Junipers "Jewellery Box". Both versions of the song are very pretty.
This song was on the war child charity cd 'Help: A Day in the Life' so I think this can be seen as a reference to the Iraq war...if that's not too political to post...
"God" is looked at as perfect. No one is perfect. The song is simply saying that people can love each other even if they aren't "perfect" for each other.
i know this is a sad song (and a beautiful one), but i can't say exactly what it all means. what i DO know is that there are a lot of christian references.
up on your wall smaller than small is a reference to (their relationship, but also) a cross or some jesus effigy that gets sort of pushed to the background (it is small). it's a common image for people (christians, obviously) who have lost their way or their faith
the wood wouldn't stain could then be how jesus is always there for them, his love wouldn't stain, even in the background (basically saying that someone loves her even though she doesn't even realize it, so these verses don't even have to be jesus)
if you're gonna be nailin me down i won't rise again obviously jesus and the cross, he dies and rises again; they're saying they won't
i'm not god, i'm not perfect, like humanantipathy said. i love you, but you can't expect me to be perfect
even with the abundance of christian references, this is still a fantastically beautiful song. i usually look the other way when people add christian references to songs, as long as they aren't preaching. and this certainly isn't a preachy song
Hey guys, sorry if I'm really stating the obvious here, but the title is a play on words, "Cross-Eyed Bear" is how its spelt but I think it really means "The Cross I'd Bear", which y'know, ties in with all of the Christ references. The fact that he's woven an actual cross-eyed bear into the lyrics on top of that once again proves that he is amazing :D
