Mansion On the Hill Lyrics

Well, I saw an old man
walking in my place
And he looked at me,
it could have been my face
His words were kind
but his eyes were wild
He said: I got load to love,
but I want one more child.

There's a mansion on the hill
Psychedelic music fills the air
Peace and love live there still
In that mansion on the hill.

Around the next bend,
take the highway to the sun
Or the rocky road,
it really don't matter
which one
I was in hurry
but that don't matter now
'Cause I have to get off
that road of tears somehow.

There's a mansion on the hill
Psychedelic music fills the air
Peace and love live there still
In that mansion on the hill.

No comment on this song? Its bloody amazing!!!!!!! The lyrics are typically mysterious, but perhaps its about the mansion he owns which he bought from the "Old Man" referred to in Harvest. Therefore in singing about his own home, hes analysing himself (eg peace and love live there still). Just a thought. Whatever its actually about the riff is amazing and probably one of the best song hes written outside the 70's.

This is about a boy who never knew his real dad. His real dad comes looking for him. (old man walking in my place{boys yard or garden};When he looked at me I thought I saw my face{sees his resemblance in his father's face). His father wants the boy to come live with him in his mansion. This is an earth-shaking experience(I was in a hurry but that don't matter now). There ain't no what to ever change the way things are. It all fits.

What else could you expect from Old Neil and Crazy Horse. They rock so hard and have solos that could bring you to tears. I beleive that this is about a man lived happily with a crazy life. His music and possibly drugs make him wild, and this is intriguing to Neil.

I think this song is about getting off coke and going back to smoking pot. He realized that speed was making him old and crazy and ruining his life and health and weed was better for peace and happiness and love. The mansion on the hill is the higher place inside himself that he decided to re-connect to. Definitely one of the most rocking jams of all time.

my friend went to a bookstore this week and came back with a couple of books, one was the new Neil book ( which I promptly stole from him :-) on the cover pic Neil is wearing a hat with a little hippie dream pin or patch...

today I was playing my guitar and this song popped into my mind, no doubt influenced by that pin

...mansion on the hill, the hippie dream, its all one song :-))
