Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing Lyrics
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount, I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy unchanging love
Here I raise my Ebenezer
Hither by Thy help I've come
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God
He, to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood
O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let that grace now, like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart, O take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount, I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy unchanging love
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet

This song is based off a Christian hymn by Robert Robinson and John Wyeth from the 18th Century. Sufjan changed up some of the lyrics and I believe that the first verse isn't repeated at the end in the original. I looked it up and there is a passage in the Bible: "Samuel took a stone and…named it Ebenezer, saying ‘Thus far has the Lord helped us." 1 Samuel 7:12
such a beautiful song.
i cannot believe the things that this man can do.
Sufjan has done an outstanding job on this song, I can't stop listening to it even though it's February! I love how he ended this, too.
yeah this is one of my favorite hymns. Actually I don't like the way he sings it all that much, the way he chops off each line. but whatever it's still good.
This song makes me feel hopeful again. Sufjan is so, so good.
~ Shivers ~ This is... just beautiful. Praise God

Can never get enough of this song! I usually don't care for older hymnals really, but this is amazing.
