Heard Somebody Say Lyrics
I heard somebody say
That the war ended today
But everyone knows it's goin' still
Our motherlands and motherseas
Here's what we believe
It's simple
We don't want to kill
I heard somebody say
That the war ended today
But everyone knows its goin' still
Our motherlands and motherseas
Here's what we believe
It's simple
We don't want to kill
Oh, it's simple
We don't want to kill
Oh, it's simple
We don't want to kill
Oh, it's simple
That the war ended today
But everyone knows it's goin' still
Here's what we believe
It's simple
We don't want to kill
That the war ended today
But everyone knows its goin' still
Here's what we believe
It's simple
We don't want to kill
We don't want to kill
Oh, it's simple
We don't want to kill
Oh, it's simple

I think this is a Devendra paying a homage to John Lennon as well as a protest song. The chord intervals are about the same as "Oh Yoko!" by John. Also, the part "I heard somebody say, That the war ended today" could be relating to "John's War Is Over... If you want it" protest. Call me crazy if you want, but i hear the Imagine piano rhythm towards the end, too.
There are a lot of subtle hints (and some not so subtle) on this album that lead me to believe it's a tribute to the sounds and ideas of the Beatles.

I'm trying to figure this song out but I'm somewhat new to piano/keyboard and I need help! I have a book with a lot of scales and keys so I could probably figure out if you just gave me all the different progressions in the song. If you could help out it'd be really awesome.

Anyone else notice that Bush declared that the war was over with his "Mission Accomplished" speech? That is the first thing I think about when I hear the opening lines of this song.
It's simple, we don't want to kill. :)
This is probably the greatest protest song of the new millenium.
Of course, I haven't heard very many.
Oh my, Devendra sure can write a pop song, can't he? I love his normal folk stuff, but this is such an amazing break from his regular music. It's just beautiful.
A simple protest of humanity. I think you can appreciate this song regardless of political tendencies. I mean you can't really get enraged about an innocent "I dont want to kill!" plea, without looking completely foolish yourself. One of the better tracks on his huge, 23 song album - "Cripple Crow"
don't know if anyone notices but the piano accompaniment strangely resembles the guitar in the classic Beatles song "Across the Universe". not much of a surprise since the 6th track on the cd is named "The Beatles," perhaps paying homage to the most influential band ever.
***10th track on the cd, not the 6th.
The melody is so easy and still it’s so beautiful, many of his song has the same background music trough out the whole song, generally it’s monotonous boring but he really makes it work. It’s just in the minds of the politicians that war ends, and that’s their job to make us believe them.
