At the party we got chained at the wrists
Outside there's girls saying
It's not gonna be just only a kiss
Everyone's disguised just a little bit

I had a bad bad time tonight
I had a bad bad time tonight
Bad things happen in the night
Where we built another world
Styles surround you
Here comes the night time
Where we built another world
Evening time

I made a loud sound and shake some teeth
Saw the lights pale across the street
It's not gonna be just only a kiss
Everyone's disguised just a little bit

I had a bad bad time tonight
I had a bad bad time tonight
Bad things happen in the night

Where we built another world
Styles surround you here comes the night time
Where we built another world
Evening time

Where we built another world
Hang ghosts from the trees and that's what I saw
Where we built another world
Hang ghosts from the trees and that's what I saw
Where we built another world
Where we built another world
Where we built another world
Here comes the night time

this is turning into one of my favorite songs on the cd, the way the drums break every so often, and how the backup vocals are used when the lead vocals are saying how we built another world. just real layered when you really listen to it

I like the lyric "everyones disguised just a little bit" because its so true everyone you meet in life puts up a facade whether or not its to be accepted or what, I dont know.

To me, this sounds like he had sex with an underage girl. "At the party we got chained at the wrists"= getting arrested "Everyone's disguised just a little bit"= she looked older than she was, and he looked younger, and they didn't know "Outside there's girls saying It's not gonna be just only a kiss"= the girl's friends knew it was going to happen, or it happened before. The whole "I had a bad bad time tonight" thing works with my theory. "We built another world"= When it happened neither of them where really thinking about it, they were in their own world

They at this party and this girl is with her friends, she is a virgin and hooks up with this guy she's been eyeing for a long time. He just wants to hit it but she wants more. She gets pregnant they are "chained at the wrists" and they built another world as the negative nuclear family. (: Just kidding.

You know how you might go to school or work during the day, but your nightlife is completely different from anything you do during the day? and the clubs and bars we go to at night, they're all absically the same. Thats what i think hes trying to get at in this song."where we built another world.../ the evening time." The stereotypical trashy white girls "It's not gonna be just only a kiss" and throngs of pale, nightl-ife people "Hang ghosts from the trees and that's what I saw" overencumber everything allowing no room for any unique identities "At the party we got chained at the wrists.../ I had a bad bad time tonight."

Well, if you're going to read it literally, it could just be Halloween, couldn't it? Pale lights from pumpkins, garbage bag ghosts hanging from trees, the demonistic emotions that are tied up in there. The "not only a kiss" could be seen as a pact with the devil.

I don't agree with the above, but I don't think (when one takes the rest of the album into consideration) that the song has a meaning as base as the ones proposed in previous posts (or in my own).

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
