This is just my guess but i think this song is about moving on and admitting that you were wrong
I think this song is about getting out, breaking free and moving on. They speak of letting go "of all we've known" and how the town "holds no more to see". I see the plot as best friends, most likely a guy and a girl, getting out together, breaking free from their old territory to start a life together. Emotions are everywhere... being unsure, yet wanting to take a risk...
then again, this is what I think of it. many people have different interpretations of songs depending on what it means to THEM.
i don't exactly know what this song means but i think that the last two people had a prety reasonable explanation. this is by far my favorite song on the album.
i think this song is about two people in a relationship, and they're both enjoying it fully, but then the guy starts to have second thoughts and wants to back out. but the girl is keeping him on his feet and saying "you know this is what we both wanted, it's time for us to let go of all we've known." i think she just sort of wants him to trust her ("hey KID, this is far too important for you to understand") and just have faith in the relationship.
I think its talking about maybe a breakup and maybe it was mutual kinda thing. and she wants him to stick with his decision
