Between the End and Where We Lie Lyrics
Is this everything, I’ve dreamed of so much more
between the end and where we lie
here all hopes and dreams are scavenged from the floor
and fed into machines that feed on vacant eyes
all of my dreams, always find me
far beyond these fake flourescent skies
I know there must be something more, if I could only find the door
then I could free myself and see the world outside where
daylight breaks on you and shines into the
grey that sleeps beneath your skull
daylight breaks on you burns away the
grey that suffocates your soul
for now I hold a key, and though I may be lost
I know that I will find my way
I search endlessly but every time I’ve thought
that I was near the smoke and mirrors lead me astray
see the pit boss, steal each tick tock
time it seems will suffer at our hands
I look for exits in the haze, the dense electric twilit maze
I’ve heard that there is one that leads to sunlit lands where
daylight, they tell me that it’s just a myth
daylight, they tell me that it can’t exist
they try to betray me with a kiss
they might never know just what they’ve missed as
daylight pours fire into my grey eyes
pour grace into my grey life
breaks in and lights the way
I can’t live without the day
between the end and where we lie
here all hopes and dreams are scavenged from the floor
and fed into machines that feed on vacant eyes
all of my dreams, always find me
far beyond these fake flourescent skies
then I could free myself and see the world outside where
daylight breaks on you and shines into the
grey that sleeps beneath your skull
daylight breaks on you burns away the
grey that suffocates your soul
I know that I will find my way
I search endlessly but every time I’ve thought

Wow, I guess the way I've been interpreting this when I listen to it is completely different from anything people are saying on here.
I took "machines that feed on vacant eyes" to be television, computers, etc. Technology, basically, and how it keeps us in a "false reality".
So, from there, I figured he was going on about how we're being distracted from our actual lives by our technology, and how there are more and more new renovations, and commercials telling us that we need this and that to be happy, and we keep falling for it. I mean, there's more to it than that, but coming from that theme, that's what I got from this song. :]
Yeah, I thought the same thing upon my first few listens. Like "dense electric twilit maze" makes me think of the trap these technologies have us in. Maybe true happiness would come from a disconnection from the technology that all but runs our lives and finding peace in nature. But this was just my first interpretation, and what I usually gather from the song.

Believe it or not... Christians arent the only fucking faithful that go through these things...

This song is about wasting your time. Your life. Getting a career, trading time for money, and wondering, "What am I doing? Will I do this the rest of my life, never feel alive, and die? I want to be free, live each day unconfined. I don't want to waste the daylight in front of a computer, or making music that gets fed to complacent, blank-faced people."
This song contains many illusions to C.S. Lewis' "The Silver Chair"
Dustin explains it outright in the liner notes about the "sunlit lands" reference
there is also another evident reference, found in the verse:
daylight, they tell me that it’s just a myth and they try to betray me with a kiss daylight, they tell me that it can’t exist
In "The Silver Chair" , when Estauce. Jill, and Puddleglum are in the Underlands trying to rescue Prince Rilian, the Queen of Underland, an evil witch, attempts to make the children forget Narnia.
She does so by making it seem to them that the sun is just imagined to them, that it does not exist, that they are meant to be underground.
so ya, bam.
great song, clever allusions.
i guess Thrice likes C.S. Lewis or something?
@The Resonator I guess so... I remember an interview where Dustin said that a lot of Vheissu songs were related to CS Lewis...

is songs talks deeply to me.
It's about working for Corporate America, an office with no windows, where most of the dreams are killed for our greed $$$, where there are fake fluorescent skies.
For me this song talks about following the dreams god has put in our hearts, to don't stop longing for them even if you are still sitting in your cubicle. To nurture them, to never lose the "key you are holding" that is moving you from the inside and tells you that there's something more.
That if you keep holding into Faith, Hope and LOVE, you will see the daylight, that will get rid of the grey that suffocates your soul
It's about not losing that hope for a better tomorrow.
This is the perfect song for when you just spent an hour in a casino and you see what lives in those kinds of places. Haunting, yet very real and sadly more common than I'd prefer.
this song definetly depicts the spiritual warfare that dustin faces on a daily basis, just like many christians do. we all must choose to follow christ, and by making that decision we have to willingly die to our wants and dreams. its not about what we want but about what God has in store for us, and sicne God is our father, our father does know whats best. so he we have to have faith in trusting God to pull us through. we are lost on our own, but God will defiently guide us all back on the right track, but only if we're willing. "i've heard that there is one that leads to the sunlite lands where" this brings forth the promise of a heaven, made by God and is offereed to all through the blood of his Son. this brings forth hope that the band is so desperately trying make known throught their new cd, Vheissu.
i think this song is really about life itself, and looking at ones self and finding out who you are. it very much sounds like it's about someone who really wants to do something, but doesn't know what they want to do, or what they need to do to do it, or maybe there is something else that is holding this person back and they are just looking for a way to get past it. i personally relate this song to the point in my life i'm at right now. i've been out of high school for over a year now, and i'm still unsure of what i want to do in the future... i'm in a stage of debating in my head what direction i want to go with, but no matter what ideas i've thought of i'm always unsure... the idea of finding out what i want and finally achieving it is my "daylight" so to speak.
This song could have loads of different reasons depending on the listener.
From Dustins point of view I think it's definately based on his religion - the whole Vheissu album seems to be focused on the ideas of spirituality and discovering the real you.
Even through Dustins eyes, 'Daylight' could mean a variety of things - it could be the finding of oneself, reaching a goal or discovering your spirituality. In my opinion, after a few listens I thought it was about 'the end,' with 'Daylight' being the light at the end of the tunnel as we die and being enlightened on what happens once we leave.
But yeah, I've listened a bit more and the 'Daylight' seems to be the discovering of an ideology - the way that other people 'tempt him with a kiss' of their beliefs and try to draw him away from his true calling. Yeahhhhh mofo
