I can't believe no one has commented..This is the song that got me into My American Heart. I love them!
mah dude is on the road and he misses his girl and the only thing helping him is playing music, but he wouldn't change things he loves the music.
I think that "in between" could describe an ex-with-benefits relationship, and how heartbreaking it is for him to go through it. He wants a relationship with the person that the song is about, but she is making him wait for something that might not even happen. I'm thinking that this girl used to date him because he is dreaming about their memories, and everything that she does/everything that happens is confusing him.
