One of the best lines in any song. Every time i hear it it makes me smile. The instrumentalism of tower of power adds a lot to this song as well. The rhythm is perfect and the melodys great. The bass line in the background holds the song together very well. Love the main idea of the whole song too. Try and do what you do and be yourself, a little cliched but it works.
whenever i hear this song i always think of that episode of the drew carey show with all the dance numbers, and they did this one when lewis thought he wanted a tattoo...i love how it ends, too, when they show lewis shrugging and rubbing the tattoo he drew on his arm off with his thumb
Why does this song even have lyrics? T of P is so unearthly funky, why not just let the band groove for eight minutes, and skip the silly lyrics?
Tower of Power rules. I like the song meaning too and don't agree the lyrics don't add anything (despite how bad ass they play). The song meaning actually is relevant today like it was in the 70s - sometimes, being hip is NOT being a "hipster" and trying too hard. Just be yourself!
