Suchness Lyrics
I want to see the thing in itself
I don't want to think no more
I want to see the thing in itself
I don't want to think no more
I want to see the thing in itself
I don't want to think no more
I want to see the thing in itself
I don't want to think no more
four legs on the chair
three flowers in the vase
four legs on the chair
three flowers in the vase
two seconds until
one suchness ten thousand things
I'll sleep and wake anew
I'll sleep and wake anew
I don't want to think no more
I want to see the thing in itself
I don't want to think no more
I want to see the thing in itself
I don't want to think no more
I want to see the thing in itself
I don't want to think no more
three flowers in the vase
four legs on the chair
three flowers in the vase
two seconds until
one suchness ten thousand things
I'll sleep and wake anew

four legs on the chair three flowers in the vase
this is a reference to Aldous Huxley's Doors of Perception. during a mecalin experience Huxley discusses the inner beauty and "suchness" of three flowers and a wooden chair. he also mentions the vibrancy of books on a bookshelf and the folds in his pants--all have the same glow of life, this inevitable suchness that is very hard to explain, but within everything.
this song is about the buddhist effort of focusing and seeing the world as it really is, and not attaching meaning to it that isn't there. he wants to see the world for what it is, and nothing else. but it's tough to do. he will sleep and wake anew, enlightened.
easter egg: anyone else notice how it goes "two seconds until.." and then the main voice comes in with "...one" and right when 'one' is done being sung there are exactly 2 seconds left until the song is at the one minute-mark
One suchness, ten thousand things.
All people, objects, emotions... these are part of one whole existence. One element of "thing"ness divided into billions and trillions of things. Beauitful statement.
I think they read some Plato and then used some drugs. Voila, this song.
ill have to disagree couldB ... beacause that would make "I'll sleep and wake anew" mean nothing. i think its more along the lines of the writer being frustrated about the reality of a situation. he sees the situation for what it is, but is having trouble making a descision on whatever it is...
I, however, must agree to disagree with janexsays; couldBanyone seems right on the money. The "I'll sleep..." line has almost symbolic meaning, perhaps awakening with the song's main thought in mind.
The song really is beautiful, beyond the odd jerkiness of the introductory melody.
